So I ordered and began to receive my ICON stage 2 kit for my 19’ AT4. It includes front coil overs, ICON tubular UCA’s, and the rear 2.0 shocks. I’m excited to do the install and get rid of this marshmallow feel.

My question is related to the droop stop.  When installing their UCA’s, ICON says to cut off the droop stop. I’ve look online and have not seen anyone discussing this in the new models. Has anyone done this mod? Is there any potential damage in the future by cutting these off?

If you don't cut it off and it will slam into the control arm under rebound. This could actually damage the arm.

Is an thin piece of metal. if you decide to go back to stock when you sell the car, or for whatever reason, you can always have it welded back in.

I just sent my stage 1 coilovers back to be converted to stage 4. I bought the tubular delta joint arms, same ones you probably have. I just read the same thing, I sent them an email, hopefully cutting em off doesnt pop or bind up the cv shaft when its put on a lift. I have no problem cutting em off other than that.

Looking at other brands most of em have you cut it off in their instructions,  only one that doesn't it rough country.

Thanks for the explanation (it makes sense). I also figured ICON would have done enough research and designed the UCA with this modification in mind, hence that's why it's part of the instructions. I was worried about comments from other online posts where they discussed stressing and possibly damaging the CV axles and the UBJ's. I don't know much of about the suspension, so I wanted to make sure. Just dotting my i's and crossing my T's.

If you don't mind, let me know what they say. I noticed it on a couple of other brands too, but reading comments online from older models made me question it and wanted to confirm.

What the conversion running? Is ICON doing it or an authorized servicer?

I ordered the caps for the UCA's and the boots for the rear 2.0 shocks. The rears were upgraded to the reservoir version for free because the non resi's were out of stock and I wasn't notified. Hopefully Mystique rides superb after this upgrade. I don't plan on going any higher than 2.75" total, but leaning toward 2.5". I'm looking for a smooth stable ride, absorbing the crappy roads that I drive on.

Their coilover should be more than strong enough to act as a bump stop, remember only thing it's stopping movement is basically the wheel and tire assembly.

They are adding reservoirs, the cdcv adjuster, revalving them, removing stage 1 internal stops and sending the reservoir mounts....its not cheap, 900.00. I talked to them on the phone, I want them to ride smooth at the 3-3.5 area. I prefer it at 3.5 and since that's max it takes a little work to get them how I want since the lower uca is at a steeper angle and it makes the ride stiffer.

The stage 2 version and up have more travel and need the uca, thats where I think the stops get cut off.   I asked them how much more travel does it get and if they have any cv problems binding or popping out with the stops cut off.

Caps for the uca..?  I thought they came with em. Hmm. Ill be ordering those.  Getting the rear rest shocks too, nice..if these fronts work like I hope they do ill be getting the rears too with the cdcv.

What swayed you away from just getting superlift 3-inch set up with Kings?

I had Fox, icon and kings on my list.

When I found out Fox's DSC rear shocks allow for zero lift at all. They were off the list.

I like icons but I will only buy them if they're at least remote reservoir and the price for the remote reservoir for icon verses the king superlift with adjusters was really hard to justify.

superlift also includes at 60000 Mile drivetrain warranty in case your dealer is a jerk.

Superlift setup give you one inch of extra travel on the rear. (it uses a small block to drop your axle but it doesn't drop your bump stop.)

I have the icons since November,  the stage one's are too firm for these Pennsylvania fine roads. Lol.  When i bought these they were the only company besides cst that made coilovers for these trucks.  With already having them i just wanted em revalved since its free but when they suggested the cdcv I decided why not.

I have the rear 2.0 icon shocks now with 1.5 blocks. Upfront an upper rc 2 inch level with a lower motofab 1 inch.  That way it sits the same as the icons did temporarily. Prob 2-3 weeks at most.

The kings on my 2500hd were a real pain, the springs sagged and the valving sucked. Accutune set me up with better valving and eibach springs for them. But these i could do myself instead of mailing them.

Superlift 6-7.5 on my hd was flawless for over 10 years,  id buy from that company anytime.

I asked about the droop stop, if you aren't going to do any excessive offloading like jumping it you don't need to trim them off.

Ahhhhh, too late, they've been cut off and thrown away lol I definitely do not plan on doing any intentional jumping. The wheels do have added travel with the droop stops off.

I have the front coilovers and UCA's installed (finished yesterday). Make sure all of the zerk fittings are in your box if you are swapping out the UCA's. My box only came with the replacements for the delta joint and I placed an order on Amazon for the 90 degree finings that go in the bushings. Waiting on the rear 2.0's with resis to arrive tomorrow. I'll try to do the install over the weekend and upload some photos.

Did you have any cv shaft binding after you cut them off at full droop..? Im thinking ill cut mine off too.

What wheels are you running, how much room do these uca's give..?  I hope my wheels clear.

I honestly do not remember checking. I'll stick the floor jack under there tomorrow and snap a picture. I drove it for about 6 miles today and noticed a huge difference in ride quality. It feels grounded and street bumps/rutts are not a problem @ 30 mph+. The truck has a good firm feel, grounded, and stable.

I am currently running the stock 20" wheels with stock 275/60/ 20 Bridgestone Duelers. I don't have much room between the UCA and the tire as shown in the pics. I'll will have to get hub centric wheels pacers when I get new 34 or 35 x11.5 Nittos RG's.

I'll post my height measurements soon.

    • I tried tapping it.  This might sound like a dumb question, you should feel vibration or some type of noise when it turns on? Can someone please verify? Thank you all!
    • I feel better now for my own view point and actions or lack there of towards the dealership service theme reading your post and others. GM corporate is who offers the two free oil changes on the HD trucks and I bought my truck in Feb of 2025 and those oil change offers run out within 2 years I believe and I highly doubt I will be using either one of them. I had asked if I could officially give those free services to another customer ( a friend ) and they said no, its all a GM corporate thing based on the vehicle in question. What that service advisor did however was go into a little story about how such and such customer was denied engine warranty because he had done his own oil changes because then they are not documented ... you see where that goes and so an employee playing the game of scaring the customer into having the service work done there most certainly triggered my thought process. At a later date I did talk to the person who handles warranty claims at the dealership and she said to be sure to document the oil changes and keep receipts for the oil and filter ( coped the receipts from cases of Mobil oil and case of filters I bought from them ) and the vehicles VIN, the date of service, mileage etc and staple that together as a record I would give them if that was ever needed and I keep my own log book for services for each vehicle as well. Oh and about 8 months after I bought the truck the dealer starts calling me to offer a maintenance service since they haven't seen my vehicle show up on their system ... for the mere fee of 300.00 Canadian to change the oil and rotate the tires and a few other minor checks and I declined the offer, I get the call again a couple of months later for the same thing and she could tell I was not interested and she asked if they should take my name off the call list and I said yes, do that !.    By the way did you happen to keep your factory oil filter to open it up and see the surprises inside as I expect some will show up as per the odd little sliver of metal shaving and particles that the filter does trap along with bits of grey silicone sealer that come off of the inside edge of mating surfaces. I have cut open every filter so far on my truck although few miles but have changed the oil often and the second filter was vastly better with very little of anything, that first filter was the unsettling one as I expected it would be.
    • I get why they do this…but man…not ideal. I only extract on inboard boat engines because the drains are buried and even then I hate it because it’s easy to leave a quart behind with that method.   They should market it as an “oil refresh” not oil change!
    • I only get oil changed where I can watch. Valvoline pulls through the dipstick into a see thru glass. When done they show me the dipstick. About the only way they can mess up is using the wrong oil. But that secret wouldn’t stay secret long. Honda uses TQ wrenches on everything. You can watch through a plate glass window. Discount tires does that with tires. Trust but verify.
    • I would not argue that with you. It would be pointless to argue against the truth and you speak the truth.    My question and in fact the entire point of this thread is an exploration into the levers of wear which happens no matter how well we maintain our powertrains.    Some of these levers we exert a good deal of influence over which can and do result is lower wear, longer powertrain life. Some others we are sort of stuck with.    An engine is typically done when the ring to bore seal no longer is able to do the job effectively. Normally the first thing to go in a engine otherwise well maintained and adult driven is this seal.    Looking into the means, methods, products and attitudes that influence the rate of wear seems a worthwhile inquiry to me.
