I have a Brownstone Metallic 2015 Silverado built at the Flint plant in May 2015. The truck has 52,000 miles and has been sometimes driven on gravel roads.  I must have got lucky, my paint looks like new everywhere, not even one rock chip. I have never had a vehicle with a better paint job.

I’m also having the same issue in the same spot, having the dealer look at it today, if they say no then there should be a class action lawsuit against the company for defective paint. Just saying.

Let me know what the dealership says.

Same year, same colour, same luck. but Sierra built in Mexico.  It is strange why some peel and flake while most don't. Maybe the cause is a result of factors after the vehicle was built.

I have a 14 Sierra that’s the same color as yours and the paint is flaking off in the same spot on both rear doors.

I have a '14 Sierra and it is doing the same of both doors, the hood from rock chips, and the bed of the truck is peeling like crazy.

It is Metallic Silver. I recommend anyone looking at buying a used '14 Sierra RUN as fast a possible because the paint job of these trucks is horrible.

I have tried to mitigate this the best I can with touch up paint and covering the affected areas to prevent it from spreading but it is only a matter of time before that happens.

I love the truck and mechanically the truck is sound but I am severely disappointed in the GMC paint job.

When you try and fix it use the GMC Paint Touch Up. Do NOT use Touch Up Direct as it will ruin the paint and not match. I used TouchUpDirect and then went on top of it with the GMC paint and it looks horrible. It made the paint "wrinkle" up. Here are some pics and maybe you can learn from my mistakes.

I have a 2014 Summit White that is peeling as well. Same spot on both rear doors and dead center of the cab about 2 inches back from the windshield. Several small places on the front end but I have not ruled out rock chips for these.

Yep, 14 Blue Topaz metallic, Drivers side rear door, same place, starts at the bottom of the window and goes up about 3 inches and a inch wide. I'd say manufacturing/Paint shop problem.

Anyone else having issues with the paint peeling off your truck?  My 2014 has started to peel and when I contacted GMC they said it was my problem and refused to help fix it.  The dealership wants $1700 to paint the entire door.  I haven't even owned the truck four years.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2014 Sierra that has this same problem, same spot. I called and was told they couldn’t do anything about it.
Apparently, their is an issue with this model in that area of the vehicle. I am totally disappointed as I purchased new and paid extra 1,000 for this color.

Exactly the same thing happening to me.  Drivers side door- same spot.  Not sure what I'm gonna do.

Dealership told me it wasn’t their fault and told me to go to their service department to get an estimate. Painter at the service department told me it’s an e-coat issue that doesn’t allow the paint to bond correctly.

Same issue on my door. Now seeing it on the hood and around the front windshield.

    • Hi all - my current truck is a 2022.5 1500 High Country 3.0. I bought the truck used last year. After doing some digging, I noticed that my truck's software is stuck on the original build from 2022. I have no available software updates. I talked to my dealer about this and they recommended not trying to force an update since the 36,000 mile warranty is expired. This is a big bummer since there have been many major releases since that have fixed small issues and improved speed/usability.   For reference, the current software build number is: full_gminfo37_gb-user 10 W158E-W164.4.2-QIH22B-563.3 158 release-keys Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I just forget about it and move on, or try a different dealer?
    • Sure. Buy it for me 🤣
    • Using zip ties but 2-3 they snap due to sharp edges. Just using a shoestring. Last longer. 🤣
    • I ordered the Snap On...waiting for it to come in later this week or early next week.   New front cover, new crank seal and new balancer are on. Water pump, pulley, fan, hoses, and plastics reinstalled. I can move forward knowing all my timing marks are dead on and the front engine is hopefully sealed better than it was. Take 2 with the water pump...trying high temp thread sealer on the lower bolts.   Rebuilt injector and new-new regulator is in, it looks like new. Top intake reassembled and all the bits are reconnected and snugged down.   Thinking about knock sensors again, I located both of mine and, there's your problem, Francis... The driver's side one is broke, plastic is bashed in, part of the wire is bare, and it appears to have been damaged like that for a long time. I saw the wire but didn't think anything of it. The knock sensor might not be my pulled timing issue, but it sure looks suspect. It must still be conducting, otherwise I'd expect a CEL. But perhaps with its sacred crystal inside exposed, jilted and dirty, maybe it's sending mixed signals. So I'm waiting for one of those and a new pigtail to come in. Pass side sensor looks good, except for the spark plug wire resting on it (!). The plug wires are healthy so it shouldn't be causing an issue, but I separated them and added zip ties to nearby looms to keep everything well apart.   So, I'm down to installing a knock sensor AND, oh, replacing the exhaust and cat. I actually think that's going to be fairly easy, it's all bolt-together, all new stuff from Walker is laid out on the shop floor ready to go. Hopefully have this thing on the road again for the weekend.   My luck? It will still be leaking oil, coolant, pulled timing, intermittent CEL for running rich, or it probably won't run at all -- because that's how this project has gone.   I've never worked on a vehicle so ...hurt? ...cursed? in my life. Everything has been effed with SO HARD, but I think...knock on wood...I've managed to undo all the backyard stuff and we're almost reset back to "just" an 80k mile, 30 year old Blazer.
