So Saturday I back the truck out of the garage,do a few errands and put it back in the garage. I go out Sunday and truck is totally dead, no lights, no horn, nothing.  I call GM road side, tow truck comes he hooks a jump box to it and it fires right off. After it starts there is NO code, NO warnings, the clock is the correct time, even all my radio channels are OK. So I drive it to my dealer, they take it in to check it out, after 45 minutes they come out and say they can't find anything and hand my a piece of paper, ( #13-08-166-001E Aftermarket ALDL or DLC interface devices causing multiple issues). Then they want to do a drain test on the battery, so I say OK, after another 2 hours they come back out and say everything is fine. They state that my problem is the AMP power steps that are plugged into the OBD port under the dash. I find that hard to believe, that after sitting over night the battery would go totally dead. The truck has less than 1500 miles on it and has sat for up to 4 days straight before all this and started with no problem. Any ideas?

Dunno, but if you have a meter you might try checking the voltage on your battery at night and then again in the morning.  If your truck has 2 batteries check both.  See if there is a difference and how significant.  Then do the same again with the steps dc/d for one night.  See what if any difference there is in a drain.  If there is a significant difference there may be something wrong with your steps interface that is draining the battery.

I had AMP steps on my last truck for 3.5 years with no issue with the battery.

Not saying I agree with the dealer, but at least if you check for yourself you can know if it is or isn't the issue.  Just saying what I would do if it were mine.  Of course your issue may be an intermittent glitch.

After reading this topic, I have started wondering what I will do if I find my truck dead in my garage. I park it pretty close to the end wall of my garage to get it to fit - so close that I don't think I can get the hood open if needed. If the batteries are completely dead (for any reason), can I get into the truck get it out of park and into neutral to push it back far enough to get the hood open?

Go visit other forums out there, You'll see many issues related to the damn battery/charging system and batteries going dead.

AND KEEP them charged.  I have bought several over the years, one of the first gifts I gave my oldest daughter after she started driving.  Every once in a while sams club runs the stanley fat max 1000 amp starter for like $59.  Had to use it a couple times on my tractor in cold weather and it rolled it fine.

Well, add me to the club. My truck was completely dead after sitting for about 12 hours. I don't have a jump box big enough so i have to wait until monday. I'll call roadside and then get it to the dealer. I do not have amp steps or anything else that should be draining the battery. I'll update with results when i find out.

Well after doing some research,  what I've come up with is that, the fuse box under the hood, is held together with 4 silver color bolts that are to be torque to 56 inch pounds. Mine were only maybe 10 inch pounds.  There is also a green color indicator by each bolt that tells if it is tight, it's green but there not tight! I hope this helps.

I got my truck jump started and i drove it to the dealer yesterday around 11am. The diesel mechanic was out so they didn't touch it. I'm supposed to find out more today hopefully.

    • This is NOT impact damage nor neglect. There were previous class action lawsuits because of such paint preparation st GM manufacturing plant. Not just the Cherry Red Color. This paint is applied in three processes to obtain the desired color.  The manufacturer will cover for 36 months or 36k miles only. That rust is actually corrosion because of the paint process failure. Corrosion is covered for 100,100 miles or a certain months. However their corrosion doesn't include this type. Go figure. Clearly manufacturer knew from previous paint issues. This started 3 weeks ago out of the blue.  
    • Is it time to put a piece of tape over the CEL? 
    • consider doing electrical testing?  I would guess some power or ground wire/connection has a problem.   alldata.com has wiring diagrams, connector pinouts and diagnostic procedures you can use to find where the problem is.
    • can you tell if the reader is actually trying to get codes, and the pcm is reporting none, or is your reader just silently failing because it's not communicating with the pcm?
    • Any joy with this truck seems to be short-lived.   The CEL for P0172 ("bank 1" too rich) is now "intermittent".   I'm not sure where to check, or re-check, and my energy to keep chasing problems with junk is wearing thin. The P0172 seems to set as I'm coming to a stop, completely off the throttle, when fully warm. At least, that's what it's done the 3? times it's set.   Everything appears normal on the scanner EXCEPT long term fuel trim. There's only one bank on this vehicle because it's an OBD 1.5 with only one upstream O2 sensor. At idle, it's around -16.4% and will dip to -18% occasionally at idle or off-throttle. LTFT approaches 0 when throttle is held at 2500rpm. Short term appears normal, much closer to zero all the time. The LTFT tells me the engine is running rich at idle but compensating at higher load. But, why?   The EVAP purge valve doesn't appear to be leaking/sucking fuel vapor continuously. Is it sticking just as I come to a stop and the engine is choking on fuel vapor and sets the P0172? But that doesn't explain the persistently negative LTFT. Disconnecting the purge valve doesn't seem to make any difference.   I suppose that leaves another dang issue with the fuel injector. A leaking fuel pressure regulator, a new leak in the spider, or a leaking fuel injector/poppet valve I didn't see, or a small crack in one of the spider legs.   The vacuum line leading to the fuel pressure regulator doesn't have raw fuel in it. It doesn't even smell like fuel when it's pulled off, not until you suck air through it, then you can tell it leads to a fuel component. I'd consider that normal? Nothing is signaling this is a FPR issue from the outside, at least.   The oil smells like fuel but it's not building volume. I've noticed most oil in most engines smells like fuel to some degree so it's hard to say if the smell is an issue or not. Or if the engine just still smells like fuel because the crankcase was full of it a few hundred miles ago. But it's been changed twice since that original issue of the leaking fuel line dumping fuel into the intake.   Patience is running very thin. Every win seems to be accompanied by two steps backwards, or another issue that leads to removing at least the top half of the intake manifold. Enough! LOL
