Is it possible to get 3.73 gearing after the fact? Say if you happened to purchase a 1500 duramax without 3.23 gearing.

Unless you can get the dealership to do the programming, there is no way to do this.

4x4 or 2?

I don't see why the dealer wouldn't flash it but if you're 4x4, it's a whole nother ballgame

The dealer would tell you it wasn't built that way and there's nothing they can do to help.

Yes, it will be expensive, especially if you have a 4wd,.  Probably over $2,000 at a reputable shop.  As far as programming goes, you would use the same device that people use to adjust their speedometer for tire height changes.  Rough country and Hypertech devices come to mind right now.

6800 ft lbs. That's in the neighborhood of how much power is going to the ground at max torque in first gear (before drive train losses). Re-gearing isn't what it used to be. It's too bad they can't get a tune on these diesel's though, now that would be something.
