Ah okay that makes sense for sure. Thats a solid deal then

Im definitely nervous to see what happens. The dealer im at now seem pretty good so im hopeful but we will see. Definitely sucks not having my truck and having no end date.

This is my 2nd silverado 2015-2020

Gotcha! let them know you have bought a few GM vehicles.  Also, make sure you get a claim number. It will stay on file for that truck. It also cuts down on the process when speaking to a representative.

Yes, getting the right dealership who cares really helps out. The one I was at we have bought multiple vehicles from but are also a huge dealership and their reputation means a lot to them. Otherwise the other local dealership which is bigger would take business from them.

Thanks for the tips. Will do.

Unfortunately im in a holding pattern currently. Cant do anything but wait. They have to try and figure out whats wrong with it, attempt to fix it and hope it does fix it. Im nervous though about the long term impacts of all this on the engine and tranny if they dont replace it completely. But we will see what happens.

Ill be updating as i hear things. Just gonna let the dealer do their things

Update 11-24-2020 330pm

Dealership called me....

Told me they diagnosed it down to be the transmission fluid pump. Said they ordered the part but its on back order with no ETA. but he said usually that means about 2 weeks. So we will see what happens.

Im not sure a transmission fluid pump would cause a knock? The whine like im hearing absolutely possible.

But i guess we will see what happens if they get it fixed or not.

Today marks day 11 without truck

It could actually be the transmission fluid pump.  I thought I had motor issues on my 2014 5.3, with a knock similar to that, and they diagnosed it as the pump.  After replacing that, the truck was silent.  Granted, a 6 speed and the "old" 5.3 but......

Also, after they fixed that, I drove the truck for another 25k with no issues until I traded it in.

Good to know! I did some google research last night and the whine seems like a very good possibility its the pump. I didnt see anything about a knock but good to know!

Did you trade because of that or other reasons?

Hey Dersch, any update on the engine whine? Did the tranny pump fix it? I have 2020 LT Trail Boss 6.2 with same engine whine. Two dealer visits with 0 luck.  They replaced a bearing in or near the transmission pump supposedly but drove off the lot and the noise was still there. Unbelievable.

Ugh oh no thats not good. Especially since i have a 5.3 and you have rhe 6.2L.

Highly recommend getting under truck and making sure there isnt a knock too. Engine whine started with knock few days later.

Havent updated in a bit sorry.

So Wednesday they called me to say part was in and itd be fixed in 2 days to pick up friday. Had a minor surgery friday so i called them Thursday to tell them I wouldn't be able to pick it up... got the whole rude well uhh idk I guess you can just get it saturday... the advisor said he would fall me friday to tell me its done and what advisor I would need to see Saturday since he wouldn't be there. I never got a call friday and i never got a call yesterday. So im not really sure whats going on.

Kinda feel like the part didnt fix it but im also trying to get to my 30 days for lemon law so im not calling them at all. But I assume i will get a call tomorrow either complaining I didn't come get it or explaining why its not done.

Id start contacting a lemon law lawyer. Document and get a video of the sound

I had a knock too, more of a clunk when going over bumps, more like speed bumps or driveway entrances, when the truck would rock as a result and would get a clunking sound.  Sounded like there was something bouncing around in the bed almost.  I brought to dealer and they installed some pads between the leaf springs. It definitely helped silence it but still hear the clunk slightly from time to time.   Not sure if this is the same knocking you’re getting. As for the whine, I’m frustrated with this.  I’m reading on here a lot of guys with the same problem and no fix.  I don’t have a lot of time to be leaving my truck with the dealer as I am active duty Marine and deploy. So not sure what to do next.  As for the lemon law, I’m stationed in NC and their lemon law is 20 days in the shop with unsuccessful results or 4 times for same repair qualifies for lemon law. I’ve already had it in the Chevy dealer twice (total of 18 work days), so one more unsuccessful visit to the dealer will be it. I will probably start looking into the lemon law lawyers.

My knocking is definitely different than that. Mines clearly from the engine and heard while in park not moving.

Unfortunately yeah lemon law wise thats your best option. My guys been great so far and very informative. Just so you know the standard is 4x attempts and 30 buisness days. Thats what I would recommend though cause the dealer clearly has no idea whats wrong with the trucks. Sounds like similiar but Different issues. I havent heard anyone else have issues like this tho

Update 12-8-2020

Dealer called me today and said truck was ready. Basically said it took longer because they got into transmission and found more issues. So they Basically rebuilt the whole thing. But said it was fixed...

Went to dealer and picked it up. Definitely no whine! Yay... right? Wrong... started it up, rolled window down and sure enough its knocking. So left with it to drive and everything. Once it got warmed up i could hear the knock inside the truck and absolutely heard it outside the truck. So made an appointment to have it looked at again. 2pm tomorrow dropping it off with a loaner.

I am so over this process.

I also swear the truck seemed to drive like a dog. It was plenty warmed up and just felt like driving a diesel truck on a super cold morning without letting it warmed up. Which goes perfect with the fact that the engine knock makes it sound like a diesel ??

This gives me no confidence at all in getting mine resolved.  I have my third appointment tomorrow at Chevy (different dealership this time to see if I get better results).  Funny you mentioned yours is now driving like a cold diesel, because mine is driving like that too now, only 2800 miles on it.  I swear it has lost power. The 420 HP motor drives like a 4 cylinder now.  I am so over this as well.  I have contacted a lemon law attorney to start the process.

Yeah im not sure if im just in my head about it driving like a dog or what. They had me in an impala which was zippy af so im trying to be realistic but i remember my truck feeling like a race car. Of course ive got 35s on mine so theyll blame it on that but legit it feels so slow and under powered now too.

Your best bet is the lawyer. Mine told me take it for my 3rd appointment tomorrow and then call hom back

It’s not just in your head.  My 6.2 Trail Boss has the 18” wheels with the GY Duratracs but mine used to feel so much more powerful.  Only have 2500 miles on it!

Update 12-9-2020

Took vehicle back to original shop that said nothing was wrong with it (prior to transmission rebuilt). First off this shops a fricken disaster. Made appt for yesterday they call me saying we have no loaners come today so i do and hes like oh well we have no loaners for you... anwyays

I tell him its for an engine knock/ whine, it feels under powered now and i have an exhaust leak/ noise shifting from 1st to 2nd. Hes like you just had it here and we said it was fine. We had our best/ head mechanic see it and nothings wrong with it. Hes like i see these all day this is normal... nothings wrong with it. Knowing i wasnt leaving there without documentation cause i need it for my lemon law case i literally had to argue with the guy for at least 20 mins to get them to look at it. He finally agreed to and im like well i gotta go cause i work night shift hes like well we dont have loaners so itll be about an hour and if its normal you can just take it. So i waited. They drove it 16 miles he said and said it was fine/ normal. Which is BS.

Also a 2017 tahoe pulled in and had literally unreadable level of oil in it and was more quiet then my truck -_-

So sent all my info and documents to the lawyer and now im waiting to hear what happens. He hasnt responded yet.

I took mine in today for the third visit for the engine whine.  Some older mechanic who said he’s been in the business for a long time rode with me to hear the whining.  He tried to tell me he couldn’t hear the noise.  I said really! You don’t hear what sounds like a fire engine siren in the distance coming from the front of the truck? Then he proceeded to tell me that he was deaf in his left ear.  I laughed and said that would be my luck! Then he eventually heard it and drove it himself to see if he could feel the degradation of power as well.  He said he didn’t know how it felt when it was new so he wanted to test drive another one from the sales lot.  Not sure where that ended up because I had to get to work so I left it.  They gave me a loaner.  This visit here will take me into the time window for the lemon law. I already spoke with an attorney and started the process.

    • Progress... sort of.   Intake is disassembled, spider is out, fuel lines removed. Used a torch on the stripped screw with the lower intake off, much easier when I've got the intake sitting on my workbench, I made it talk. Walked right out with a pair of vice grips once it was nice and toasty hot.   New parts are piling up on my service cart waiting to be installed. Distributor, temperature sensor, new gaskets, fuel line kit, themostat, water neck.   My new pickle is I don't want to spend $600 on a replacement spider. I'm not sure IT is bad. I'm probably splitting hairs. Or it's $300 to send mine away and another 3 weeks of the truck just sitting. I have half a mind to assemble everything with the old spider to see if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pressure regulator to be safe. The obvious issue was the gushing high pressure fuel line which will be replaced. Getting to the spider really isn't that hard, and now I know what I'm doing , swapping it would be a breeze should it absolutely need one. Stupid, or smart?   The part that gives me pause is replacing the distributor. Well, it's already out. And I didn't mark it, whoopsie! Engine was at TDC when I removed it, I know that, so upon correct reinstall the metal tip on the rotor should point to the TDC mark on the distributor because that's where it was pointing on the old distributor. Worst case I'm a tooth off and have to re-stab it.   But then, what? I assume the truck will start. It doesn't appear the timing can be set. Here's the problem: These distributors can't be rotated but a degree or two, by design. What I read is Cam ****** needs to be -2 to +2 degrees, ideally at 0 (and checked/set above 1000 rpm). There should be enough wiggle to get that properly set, but checking the reported value is another potential issue. My Actron 9185 scanner says it supports enhanced GM PIDs and Cam ****** is one of them but it's unclear that I'll be able to correctly see it over OBD 1.5. I can see why people end up junking these things with life left in them. They're an absolute nightmare with tweener-year diagnostics/electronics and unobtanium parts.   Fingers crossed it starts and idles nicely. There can be hope, right? I'ma buy a lottery ticket the same day just in case.   Next steps..DO IT. I have not installed an intake before so I've been reading and watching a lot. Some say NO RTV except on china walls, some say DO RTV on water ports but not fuel/air intake. 1/4 or 3/8 bead on China walls? I think my strategy will be, obviously, RTV china walls with overlap on the gasket corners. Chapstick-style RTV the water ports. Leave intake ports dry. The only set of intake gaskets I could find locally are Edelbrock performance gaskets (uh...for an asthmatic 190hp V6? LOL) so we'll see how they do.   #NoToolLeftBehind. It took an hour, but my recovery mission for my deep 10mm socket was successful. It had rolled down the bellhousing and wedged itself between what I think are the fuel lines? I couldn't see it at all, but with a junk antenna I had laying around, I blindly went poking/sweeping for it, heard it clink, raised the truck, and caught a sliver glimpse of chrome with a flashlight way up there in Narnia. I had pushed it farther along the lines holding it captive, but within access of severely improvised tools, poking and cursing at it to finally knock it free to where I could get a fingertip on it to bring it home.    Not much to see.

    • It wouldn’t have happened if the government hadn’t mandated outrageous fuel mileage standards. It does very little for the consumer. It adds cost. Back during Covid there was a chip shortage. They gave a rebate for your truck if it didn’t have the chip to turn on cylinder deactivation. It was 50$ because at best you may see 1/2 a mile increase per gallon. Splitting hairs each fuel mileage trick wasn’t mandated. The government doesn’t do the engineering work and say use this until it’s already in use and they like it. The fuel mileage was mandated. And those add ons the results. There’s a mandate and they are the results.
