2015 Sierra SLT Headlight Upgrade

The headlights in my truck are terrible and I want to upgrade the bulbs. Looked at some older posts and saw recommendations for Morimoto HID kits. Is this still the go to or are there any new recommendations with the advances in led technology? How’s the install? Thanks in advance.

Fastheadlights is the place to go. I did the projector replacement as there isn’t a fix for the crappy projector that is stock.

head light revolution does a pretty decent job going over different options. I personally went with the SV-4 bulbs and have not had any issues with them.

The problem in these trucks isn't thr headlight bulbs. Its the projectors don't have the ability to put out the light effectively. Upgrade the projectors in order to get those most bang for the buck.

I started with the Morimoto HID Kit for the Sierra when I first bought my truck.  And while there was a definite improvement, after having a HID Retrofit on my 01 Denali, I ended up purchasing an extra set of headlights (when they were going for roughly $600 a light), and did the Projector Retrofit with the kit from Fast Headlights...  Now the headlight assemblies are much cheaper, so doing a Retrofit is much more affordable.   The stock projectors are designed for halogen bulbs and simply do not compare to a HID projector.  It's like putting LED bulbs in and there is no clean cutoff which causes glare for on-coming traffic.

 

Over the last 5 years, I've replaced the ballasts (two times), HID bulbs (3-4 times), and harness (once), and I'm getting ready to replace the bulbs again because I have one that doesn't always fire when the lights come on automatically.

 

I researched to see if there was a LED substitute and found that there are Morimoto LED headlight assemblies available at $1300 a set.  After reading some reviews (HID vs LED), I'm sticking with my HIDs since the review indicated the beam pattern travels longer than LED.

Why not just upgrade to the 2016-18 SLT headlights they’re LED, I can tell you going from my 2014 halogen headlights to the 2016-18 LTZ headlights (LED) big big improvement. I don’t think much is required to upgrade for Sierra (don’t quote me on that lol) compared to doing the whole Silverado frontend swap. If I was gonna spend 1300$ I would upgrade to the newer style headlights for bout the same price.

I have the Hylux 45w kit with Morimoto bulbs (from TRS) in the OEM projectors. Wish I would have retrofitted the 3" FX-R projectors while I had the headlights opened to clear them, but I am happy with the results.

Did you have to get error cancellers? I have a 2014 SLT AT and I'm wondering if I will need error cancellers if I go with this set up.

^^^+1 Upgraded my 2015 SLT Headlights to the 2016 LED Headlights, night and day difference.

Definitely love the newer style led headlights, my eye sight ain’t the best but damn these sure did help in low lighted areas big time!!

I believe so, if you don't, the automatic headlights won't work correctly from what I've read. I've never tried my setup without the capacitor link though.. For $20 I would get them just to be safe but it would be interesting to see how they would act without it. My thought would be flickering upon start up due to the incorrect voltage to the ballasts...

Thank you! You only need one right? Since the relay harness connects to one of the original bulb pigtails only, from what I gathered.

Correct. I wired mine on the passenger side since I already had a good grounding location for the relay harness itself.
