dtr118 Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 I have a 2020 Trail Boss. Has anyone switched out the Good Year duratrac tires which are load range C for the BF Goodrich K02 load range E? I have a lot of trailer sway with the good year tires, they have soft side walls. I want to switch but am unsure how to change the factory tire pressure settings. The K02 tires run 80psi compared to the 41psi on the good years. I don't want to get alerts for high pressure from the chevrolet app.
Moend Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 What type of trailer? Travel trailer? If so look into weight distribution hitch. And if you end up replacing the tires let us know if that improved it by much
dtr118 Posted November 24, 2020 Author Posted November 24, 2020 I tow 3 different trailers. 17ft Ice Castle fish house, weighs about 4500lbs, 25ft travel trailer about 6000 lbs, and an aluminum 12 ft trailer for side by side. The travel trailer I use a weight distribution hitch with sway bars, it still does not help. The 17ft trailer is the worst, almost scary at times. The 12ft trailer tows fine. I towed all 3 of these trailers with my Tundra using the BF Goodrich K02 load range E tires. No sway at all. That is why I was surprised when I bought the trail boss that it tows so badly. I figured it must be the load range C tires.
silveradosid Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 i have 275/70r17 k02s on my 2104 chev that are e rated. these tires have a load rating of 3195 lbs. i run the tires at 50 psi. i tow an enclosed trailer weighing approx 7000 lbs frequently and have no problems. these are great tires for every type of road condition. the down side is they are heavy which means your fuel mileage will take a good hit, but if your towing a lot it doesnt matter. the ride is good for an e rated tire. the other down side is they start off fairly quiet but that doesnt last long . they do become very loud to the point i thought my front wheel bearing were shot. i have put over 40k miles on the tires and traction is still just as good as new. running higher pressures than the door sticker doesnt set off any alarms on my truck
redwngr Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Any chance you've changed the weight distribution on/in the trailer? May not be the issue, but changing weight distribution can change the way a trailer pulls --- and induce sway.
bshort Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 I tow a 6K trailer with an 800 pound tongue weight on stock tires. No sway. I do feel some slight sidewall flex, but it is not sway.

If the trailer's center of gravity is too far back, it will sway like crazy. 4 hours ago, silveradosid said: running higher pressures than the door sticker doesnt set off any alarms on my truck Also this. The pressure indicator light is only when they sense too low of pressure. higher won't light up your dash. If your trailer's tongue weight is within what the truck can handle, your OEM tires should be adequate for that load. I wouldn't put load E tires on unless you pull the trailer daily and don't care about the ride quality when unloaded. That's not to say the OEM tires are great and you wouldn't be happier changing them out.
Rodek Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Stock Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires on my 2020 High Country 5.3 10 speed. I pull this 7000 LB travel trailer with no sway and the stock tires are fine. I do use a Recurve R3 weight distribution hitch with sway control.
