Traction control, stabilitrak, brake fluid

Recommended Posts

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 and just this year when the cold weather started, in the mornings when I start driving I get traction control off, stabilitrak off, and brake fluid low messages. I don't lose power and nothing else happens. After the sequence the traction control turns back on. It does it when I start accelerating and sometimes just random while driving. Anyone having this problem?

Thank you. I checked and my fluid was just below min in the reservoir. I filled it to halfway between max and min and will try it in the morning to see what happens. I will update tomorrow. It's crazy that it would only do it on the really cold mornings but when it warned up it wouldn't do it anymore. Had me really confused.

I filled the reservoir about halfway between min and max so not to overflow later hopefully. I haven't had any issues since then. Why they can't just put up a "Brake Fluid Low" warning I don't understand. Instead they make it seem like your computer is freaking out and your truck is about to blow up! lol

Thank you @Eddie 70

Glad to hear that helped clear the light. The brake fluid does not go away unless you have a leak somewhere. The main reason fluid level goes down is brake pad wear. You might wan to give the brake pads a peek and see how they look or you could wait on the tell tale to hit the disc and make noise.

Yeah I figured it was the brake wear once you mentioned checking it. 63k miles so I may be getting close to a brake job. It was just at the min line but with the cold temps it was causing it to not flow easily. Again the simplest thing for them to do is have it advised low fluid and not sound alarms like ticking time bomb haha. Again thanks for the help.

I have searched countless threads and haven't seen a similar issue. I have a 2017 GMC Sierra SLT 1500 2wd 6.2L. I have had a RC 3.5" Lift in Front and 2" Blocks in Back on 33" Yokohama's. I also have a Hypertech Max Energy 2.0 (p/n 2100), which I used to calibrate my speedo. I installed this setup just over a year ago. Stability Control (Stabiltrac/TC/ABS,etc) has not been an issue until now. My front two tires had strange wear, caused by premature failure of my UCA's. A couple weeks ago i replaced both front tires. The truck still drove great. This last weekend I rotated the tires at home, now the new tires are on the rear. It now feels like I'm driving on marbles/on ice. Not stable at all. the traction control light (on the cluster) flashes on, and I can feel my stabilitrac try to wreck me. It's not an anti-lock deal because my brake pedal acts normal. My Wheel Speed Sensors appear to have slack and are not damaged. I made an appointment today (for tomorrow) to have the two 'older' tires rebalanced. Could that cause these symptoms or am I overlooking something? I've seen others talk about the Rough Country 90009 and the Hypertech 732501 as possbile fixes in their case, but I believe the 732501 is a scaled down version of the 2100. I find it hard to believe its a sensor (Steering Angle, Yaw, etc) because, I would think I would have been having an issue before. This literally started after a tire rotation. thank you, in advance.

      Hey everyone,
      I have a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500.

I bought it in April of last year and it has been miserable.
I visited the dealership more times than i can count and some problems still are happening.
The main problem is my truck shutting off.

In  Early September, I noticed as i was driving my radio would go black, then as i would tap my breaks everything would shut off and turn back on. As this happens, the stabilitrak light comes on, my truck stalls (sometimes) steering wheel locks and starts shaking. Now this happens everyday when i drive it.  Go to the dealership they say it is a corroded wire, they take care of it and send me on my way.

December of 2019 my truck starts doing the EXACT same thing, except now i can't even do anything but shift my truck into park and restart it, every small touch on the brake shuts my truck off. Now i live in the mountains, and we have a lot of hills. Imagine driving a blacked out truck in the middle of the night on a hilly road with no lights and your truck completely cuts out. It was sketchy. I go to the dealership, ONCE again. They replaced a WHEEL BEARING. Saying it caused the issue. tf... To my surprise the truck has been fine.

Fast track to June, present day. Drive my truck for a half hour or more, the problem is back. Now i am pissed. My boyfriend and myself do research and we found a youtube video about GM trucks and problems with G218. All the exact problems to  a T! i brought it to the dealership this morning, they refuse to do anything until the truck signals any of these problems. Instead of popping open the dashboard to even just look. It has been 6 hours and now they are keeping it overnight. 40 minutes from where i live..
I am pissed. I did my homework and presented it to them, thought they had listened but apparently not.

From how it seems, i am not the only problem having this issue with 2014+ older GM trucks. Everyone keeps saying this needs to be a recall but the dealerships WILL NOT listen. I know people on this forum who have spent thousands on diagnosis's for their trucks to just have them messed around with.

Anyone else having this issue? I would love for my boyfriend to just fix it but then it voids my warranty.
How the hell do we get GM to acknowledge this and make it a recall. I am by far not the only person having this issue.

I am new to the forums and hoping someone may have seen this or run into this before. I own a 2012 Silverado LTZ Crew Cab, 5.3L, 2WD, 102K miles, Factory radio with a harness plug for a an amp for subs. Electric drop down side steps. LED headlights & fogs. K&N Nighthawk Intake. Battery is less than a year old but i'm in Arizona so batteries get wrecked yearly.

I recently took my truck to my local DIY car wash place where I always go. I washed my truck like normal and dried it off like normal. I did not spray engine bay, just the front grill area inward but not heavy. I don't usually use my AC but I'm in Arizona and it was about 109* outside. When I was leaving the car wash I kicked my AC on so I wouldn't mess up the clean windows from rolling them down. I proceeded to leave and as I was coming to the stop sign before making my turn and my truck's idle started to drop, truck kinda sputtered, the battery voltage dropped, the stabilitrak light, traction light, ABS light, all kicked on. The radio shutoff and turned back on. The AC shut off and turned back on, but switched from recirc to fresh. I turned the AC off and then back on again and continued to drive home. It did it a few more times so I swung into the gas station to park and see if it would do it while i was sitting there. Nothing. So back on the road again, turned my AC on and hit the next light, and it did it again.

I changed my oil today (6/13), I cleaned my K&N air filter last weekend. I took a trip to Lowes this morning to see if it was still doing it, and sure enough it was. The photos are attached of it doing it in the lowes parking lot before I left. I rolled the windows down, turned the AC off and cruised home. It didnt do it again. So I am thinking the AC is drawing a huge amount of power from the system when I run it, or my battery is done for. Any helpful feedback would be appreciated.

While out on a dirt road enjoying my newly installed prerunner suspension I successfully turned off the Traction Control and ESC (electronic stability control). Went for a run down the woops and ESC turned itself back on and applied the brakes during one of my drifts. COMPLETELY unexpected and caused the truck to handle undesirably (to say the least). In talking to another Chevy guy he said the ESC turns itself back on at 35mph and above!... Is there anyway to 'tune' this out and make it stay off when desired?
This is exactly why I held onto my 05 Duramax for so long. It had ZERO 'nanny hardware' that would f*#k with me while offroading.

      My 2019 SIlverado 4x4 has 3,100 miles.
It was parked in the driveway last week and when I attempted to enter it into the garage, and in Drive, it sat there for a second or two, and then lurched into the garage.  I instanteously hit the brakes and got it stopped.  When I pressed the gas, the truck just stood still, then took off into the garage.

Now, today, as I backed out of the driveway for a quick errand, the emergency brake would not release, then it released, but as I selected Drive, it refused to move.  I played around with it several times, pressing the brake pedal as instructed, and finally got it to go.  However, I had now brake assist.  It required a ton of pressure to get it to stop.

The dash light up like the 4th of July.  BRAKE showed up in red, engine in yellow, Traction Control in yellow, Tire Pressure (quickly vanished), ABS, and Service ESC.

Am heading to the dealer (48 miles) in the morning.  I was going to connect my DTC and see what was showing, but will refrain, so dealer can see for themselves.

I've noticed a couple of intermittent quirks since I've owned it (July 2019), but things seemed to resolve themselves.  I did receive  December recall and they will get that looked at in the morning.

Am attaching a photo of the dash as i sits now.  The -14.6V DC light is from a piece of equipment I have installed.

Anyone else out there having issues?

Also, photo shows less the 30psi oil pressure at idle, a bit low I am thinking
