I have a 2019 SLT without the NHT/Max Tow, but with the Z82 trailering package, factory trailer brake controller, trailering app, and the IOT radio.  The truck did not come with the trailer TPMS; not only did it not come with the sensor, but it also didn't come with the module that goes behind the rear license plate.  Not realizing that a separate module was needed, I ordered the sensors first.  That obviously did nothing, as the truck did not recognize them.  So I then ordered the module from eBay.  My truck had the wiring harness already ran to module location, so when the module arrived I just plugged it in.  The trailering app immediately recognized the module and gave me an option to set up the trailer TPMS sensors.  No dealer programming necessary.  It was all plug and play.  I had America's Tire install the sensors, and I then used my TPMS tool (Amazon, same one for doing tire rotations) to program them.  It works perfectly.  The trailering app now displays the tire pressure and temperature for all 4 trailer tires.

Just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone is wondering if this can be added.  I read a GM tech article where the writer indicated that it could NOT be added after-the-fact, but that is clearly not the case.

Here were the items I purchased to make it all work:

  • Sensors, part #84152501.  $65 new on eBay for a set of 4.
  • Module, part #84458180.  $77 new from GMPartsDirect.com

All-in for about $150.

You have a picture of the installed module? Can one see it by taking the rear plate off?

Sorry I don’t have my truck at the moment. But if you take off your rear license plate, you can quickly and easily tell them if you have the module or not. If you want to post a picture of yours, I can tell you.

Not my picture, but one I found online. The module is the rectangular box on the right, that says MADE IN UK and SCHRADER ELECTRONICS.

I have a '19 3500 Denali. It has the Z82 trailering package, factory brake controller, 5th wheel prep, but a different radio (I06) and RPO JK1 - TPMS Delete. I looked at the back of the truck and did not see an additional wiring harness. So in addition to the module I'm guessing I'll need that harness too. Any input is appreciated.

So right now my trailer app in the truck only gives me the option for the light check. If i get the module and tpms sensors, then i'll have the availbilty to monitor the trailer tires? I thought that the software in the truck was different to be able to have that ability...could be because I have an RST without the advanced trailering package?

I also have an RST and all I get on the trailer app is a light test.  I decided to just try adding the module to see what would happen.  I still just get the light test.  To the OP, prior to adding the module did you only get a light test option or did it give you other options?  I'm curious because I had trouble getting the plug into the module (thought it should have been easy) and I want to be sure I didn't mess up the harness in the process.

I'm interested in this too. I have an LT with the larger radio (Sirius XM, HD radio, etc), but my trailer setup only includes the light test.

I checked and I don't have the module, it sounds like it takes more than just buying the module, maybe a flash from the dealer?

good afternoon

I have a 2020 Silverado 1500 LT trail boss that does not have the advanced trailering package

I purchased the module you recommended above when I plugged it in in the rear of the truck behind the license plate and turned the truck on it did not recognize it nor when I plugged in my trailer

I believe I have the iOS radio .  Is there anything I need to do to get this to work?  Any type of computer flash in the OBD-II?

we are leaving on a camping trip in two weeks so I was hoping to have this done soon anyway advice would be much appreciated

Hi SoxFan904... Did you figure out why it didn't work, I have a 2020 RST with the IOS radio and Z82 trailer pack. Would like to try it as well but don't want to spend the money if it doesn't work. Perhaps a GM dealer can program the module? Any info you can provide is appreciated. Thanks.

I have the Z82  in my Codes but I was not able to figure it out.  I installed the module I bought in the back of the truck and it did nothing, even when I hooked up to my Camper.  My Truck ONLY has the trailering app.  I am going on a trip soon with my camper, so I didn't want to take the chance of having the valve stems replaced with the GM ones I bought and have it still not work.

My understanding is that it was something available from the factory and cannot be programmed, but I cannot find a definitive answer on that.  I was hoping it could be an "upgrade" I could buy.  I contacted my dealership and they were unsure as well.    I'll provide any updates if I have them, as I am going to try again to reinstall it and maybe have a valve put on my spare tire as a test.
