Do you guys recommend a hard low pro tonneau cover or hard sit on top tonneau cover? Any reason for either  or is it just preference/looks?

Neither. Roll N Lock is the best cover ever made. Period.

Retractable tonneau covers are awful in the winter.

Can't relate. I'm in Florida and love them. They are a God send.

I went with the Under Cover Ultra flex.  Very low profile and has a 5 year warranty instead of 2-3 years like most others.  I've had one issue and they shipped me out a new and had it within a week.  Very good customer service.

I got mine from Oedro, he is a vendor on GM-Trucks.  Soft-tri-fold.  Just make sure that you get the tiedown dialed in before you road test it.

I got a Roll N Lock cover powder coated aluminum slats. I live in Arizona and it has been great. I pondered at the time on getting the electric version over the manual version. I wished I had gotten the electric on since the top gets hot in the sun and burns the fingers on the last couple inches to close it.

I would recommend the Roll n Lock if you can afford it.

3-1/2 years later, the stitching is coming undone.

I have the GatorTrax Electric Retractable Tonneau Cover that was getting a bit anemic on retracting and closing.
Right after I lubricated the rails a bit with some quick drying silicone spray, it stopped working.
I checked it was getting voltage to the connector from the battery.
I queued up a replacement to buy but prior to pulling the trigger I thought "Let me check the remote control battery."

Sure enough, after two years, the battery was dead and wouldn't trigger the opening and closing and, also, the bed light.
For $6 a pack of LiCB A23 23A 12V Alkaline Battery (5-Pack) fixed what I thought was a disaster.
I highly recommend this electric bed cover! :)

Another recommendation for a Roll-N-Lock. I've had mine since the end of 2016, and even with the South Carolina sun, it still looks and works fantastic. It keeps 99.5% of the water out. I can lock it, and since it's vinyl over aluminum, it can't be cut with a knife like my previous vinyl one was.
