Pulled an amateur move today. Had to get into my bed to grab something before backing up my trailer and got sidetracked. Backed my trailer up and completely forgot it was down. The mid tailgate now has a decent dent in the top part of the mid tailgate (see photo). It still functions just fine, but can’t stand the look of it now. Any one have the part number for this portion or know what it costs to replace just that?

Oh boy, truck is junk. Need to sell it to me for scrap price!

On a serious note here is a used one on ebay. Has scratches, but would need to be painted to match anyway.

I'm sure you're sick to your stomach, but teaching lessons aren't getting any cheaper in life.

If I recall, the mid gate shell retails around $400?  That's an primer'd shell, no trim, guts, etc.  The top plastic is maybe $80-100?  Add paint and labor.

Find a complete and assembled takeoff gate in matching color and buy it.

Its almost $3000 for just the parts if you were to order everything and assemble from GM new parts.

can you swap a multi pro with a standard gate and have it work properly?

That is what I was going to try on my Chevrolet High Country. Since the 2020 did not have the MultiPro option I thought I would buy a GMC tail gate. So I found one complete so it would be swap for swap. Well, GM decided to make it difficult in that they flipped the wiring on the plug 180 Degrees. So all the power is on the wrong end from a Chevrolet to a GMC. It is possible that a GMC to GMC might work, but you cannot just plug in the GMC tail gate to a Chevrolet. I was going to rewire the plug and try that, but then I found out about the 2022 redesign and I will just trade my 2020 Chevrolet for a 2022 GMC.

Altogether probably more than your comprehensive deductible. This is why the insurance is carried. Time to use it. Don't be afraid of it raising a ton its not like you wrecked an Escalade convoy.

Get your truck back right the way you want it.

Other option is try a dent pro. Since there are no creases I can see they may be able to fix it. I talked to one place and they said it was possible when I did the same on my old 2016. My dent was from the inside (tailgate was put up when I was pulling away) but looked much the same. I did have to replace the top plastic on my '21 GMC in another incident and that part was $40 from the dealer. Might cost about $500 0r less.

Gemarsh, no GM tailgates are all steel at least on the Hd's

Multipro is all aluminum on all models. Grab a magnet and check it out.

No.  Gates 2019 old body and prior are all steel tailgates.

New style trucks 2019+up, all 1500 gates are aluminum.

All 2020+up HD gates are steel except the HD MultiPro/MultiFlex, those are aluminum.

Newdude is correct as always .

I was told all metal parts on hinges on 2019 1500 trucks are aluminum, doors, hoods, tailgate
