Hello - I'm new here trying to find out info on Why I can't upgrade my wheels on newly purchased 2022 HD Truck. I'm still waiting on truck to be delivered. It is coming with standard 17" wheels. I said what the hell -let me upgrade to the 20" black rims and make it look a bit beefier. The salesman are telling me I cant because of some calibration stuff or whatever. Does anyone know what's going on that can explain it to me so I get it ? I like the 20" because another hd gas model I was going to buy , that fell through had them on it . I liked the look. On another note Do I need the 20" is 17" fine ( I feel they are too small and just basic - wanted to black it out emblems, step bar ,wheels) or would 18 " be better - Not sure what the difference is on terms of ride etc. Thanks for any help. Eric

The accessory team sells a 20 in tire kit to upgrade trucks.  It could still be on stop order on trucks equipped with 17" tires due to a recall in 2021.  The issue is if the truck was originally equipped with 17's and you install 20's, you need to change to 18" spare.  Otherwise, if you install a spare on rear axle the locking differential could not unlock due to the speed delta across the axle.

Thank you . Do you know what the 20" upgrade kit is called or a part number ? Dealer really has no clue or is just being lazy.

Salesman are not always the most informed people to deal with. I know at my dealer they are mostly all younger people and hardly know anything about the vehicles they are selling.   I would check with a knowledgeable parts person, if that dealer has one.

GM has authorized calibrations that are performed to flash the truck to these.

You will need to also order a new spare wheel and tire to go with any of these that GM offers.
