2020 GMC 1500 SLT with 27K miles. I can start the truck with the app and/or the key fob remote start. When I get in truck I put my foot on brake and push the button and It won't let me take over.  Engine is running, But I can't shift, I can't do anything other then turn the truck off with the App/ or remote.  I repeat to get the same result.  I try to just start truck from the push button and nothing.   This has happened several times ( 6 times in less than a year).  Sometimes I get learning remote please wait.  but nothing happens.  I have to walk away from the truck and I wait for an hour or so and then truck works normally.  I've had truck to dealer 3 or 4 times now.  They can't duplicate the problem.  We have replace key fob batteries twice now with the same issue. Dealer is at a loss and so am I.  Dealer has checked for software updates and has reprogramed the truck.  Nothing has helped, and there is nothing like wondering of your $60K truck is going to let you go to work.

    Anyone got any Ideas?

Do you ever get the "no remote detected" to come up on the dic?

When everything is working correctly, leave the remote away from the vehicle and try starting with the push button. Does it say "no remote detected "?

When it fails to start during a remote/app start, will the remote, unlock the doors?

When it does fail, have you tried putting the remote in the specified holder for the remote, depending on center consule design? And it still fails?

gemarsh,  Thanks for the reply. here are my answers for your questions.

I sometimes get "remote Learn Pending please Wait" in the dic but I have not seen "No remote detected. "

I will try the  leave the remote away from the vehicle and try starting with the push button. and see what happens.

I have the full center console design. I did not know that there is a specified holder for the remote. should the remote be in a specific spot when I'm operating the truck?

The spot is between the cup holders in the console. The purpose is to allow the truck to start if the battery in the remote is dead. Have you tried the other remote?

the truck will give me "No remote detected" if I try and start it with the remote left in the house.

does the remote need to be put in the "remote holder" all the time?  I have never done that. I just keep it in my pants pocket. Should I be putting it between the cup holders?

I have tried both remotes when it won't let me take control of the truck.  Did not make a difference.

No.\ it doesn't need to be in 'remote holder'.

Location is for use if the battery in remote is dead.

Perhaps truck isn't detecting foot on brake pedal?

That's what I was thinking, but it's displaying "remote learn pending, please wait." Which is weird. That's why I asked if the remote unlocked the doors while it was failing or if he used the app to unlock the doors.

If it was me, I would not use the remote start feature until it's fixed, on work days.

Don't forget the timing light.

Thanks for the responses.

gemarsh -  the remote features all work when this happens,  It will unlock/lock doors, it will open tailgate, it will shut the engine back off and it will restart the engine.

This Failure to let me take control has happened all 3 ways,  using the app, using the fob, and just getting in and try starting it by putting foot on brake and pushing the button.

I started switching ways of starting the truck since the 1st time this has happened trying to eliminate what it could be.  The last visit to the dealer they suggested it could be interference of maybe a toll road easypass? or my Gym and work RFID card passes?  something of that type.  I have removed all of these with the exception of a window sticker that has a chip in it for my car wash membership. (hard to remove that one). and if it is one of these things you would think all the vehicles would pose this problem.  So I think the dealer is grasping at straws?

So I'm at a loss with a untrusting vehicle. Boy do I wish I had my 2014 truck back.

gemarsh-- you asked ( When it fails to start during a remote/app start, will the remote, unlock the doors?)

The truck never fails to start with the app or the remote.. it fails to let me take control. ( engine is already running )

BUT when it starts (acting up this way) I can't do any thing except start engine and turn off engine with the app or remote. It won't let me just turn truck off and start it with foot on brake push the button. it wont do any thing at that point.  and if I start it to many times with the remote or app. the truck will go into theft mode?

when truck fails to let me take control the only thing I can do is to leave it sit for and hour or so and then it will act completely normal.  I take it to the dealer and obviously they can't duplicate the issue. I have even recorded what happens and show them the recording and they say they need it to happen when it's there.  So they do their checks and tell me everything checked out fine nothing they can do at this point.  A month or so later truck will do the same thing.

This almost sounds to me that the remote is defective, when you said you tried both remotes did you leave the remote you always use in the house or way far away from the truck when you tried the other remote? Has it acted up when the truck is away from the house? I would also remove that sticker for the car wash to take away all possibilities as the truck may be seeing the chip in the sticker and getting confused on and off and interfering with the signal from the remote.

    • It's possible the two trucks are using different body control modules which is why yours works and the OP's doesn't.   So much in these newer vehicles depends on model/trim configurations, production date. They don't all use the same modules like back in the day.
    • I forgot to answer the question as per what market mine is set to and yes I finally found that area on mine and yes its also set to America.   So here's something I realized as I wasn't looking at that part in the Sierra section until now, your right that what I see here as choice 3 under Sierra which says 07/2023-06/2026 ( 433 MHz 13542523 ) it has no choice 5 for tire pressure selection. Where as it does under the Chev choice. However I kept going down the list within the Sierra and I am really wondering if choice 9 will work for your truck as it has the same model number and hertz sensor as my truck. I would say try that choice first, if that doesn't work then jump over to the Chev section and again choose that same model and hertz choice as for some reason the Chev section gives the choice 5 of tire type/pressure selection for going back a number of years. Could very well be an Autel thing that they just didn't get the updates all done properly under Sierra but anyway first try that selection 9 I suggested under Sierra and then go from there.
    • Looking for this piece that holds the hose clamp in place. I have the hose clamp just not that other piece. Dealers and wrecking yards in my area will not sell just that piece. They want you to buy the whole air tube $100 +/- to get that $5 part.  that piece isn't molded to the air tube as I looked at my friends truck. It's held on by a screw and nut. I'm trying to put the OEM parts on the truck as the previous owner butchered things up installing an aftermarket CAI. It really looked homemade. 🤣 Thanks
    • Ok I missed that part that yours is a GM. The strange part is that the choice for year ranges and within the year of 2026 is different on the Sierra then on the Chev for some reason as I am looking at my tool at the Sierra choices. Now I am guessing you see as to your sensor part number as it may be different on your truck for some reason and a call to GM should get you the part model number of the sensors you should have as well as which MHz your sensors are. I know mine are the ones as per what I listed but there are other choices in the Autel and got me wondering if by some chance they put different ones in your truck. Having said that, did you try using each of the choices starting from No 1 and going on down the list, not sure if that would mean shutting off the engine each time and resetting the tool and going at it again each time. Also I thought of something else which may sound retarded but if there was some stupid chance that the chev choice would work. The reason I say that is that the Sierra is showing a range up to 06/2026 for the various choices of sensors it could be where as the Chev has one choice that has that 12/2026. By the way it is possible to not run the truck and you may know that as per not pressing the brake but pressing and holding the start button for a few seconds and it lights up the dash ( its called service mode ) but that sucks battery power and if it were me doing it that way I would be throwing on a decent sized battery charger before doing it that way as killing your battery won't make you happy at me at all !.    Like I say, just a thought to try the Chev choices if you have already exhausted the Sierra choices but first it would be nice to know for sure what exact sensor model and hertz your truck uses as I assume only those choices that mention the sensor would work unless a choice that does not mention the sensor model would somehow work. Its frustrating when one is trying to use tools like this without the experience of the tool and the vehicle, as I am sure dealer techs themselves struggle with it when starting out or a new model year comes along that is slightly different.
    • I tried before I updated the scan tool just incase an update messed it up, but it never worked so I updated the scan tool and it still didn't work.   Only difference is I click on Sierra not Chevrolet cause I have a Sierra.   If I click on 2026-2024 I didn't have any option to change placard, when I click on 2023 it does give me the option but when I try to do it,.it says vehicle not supported!   I have my region or market or whatever it is set to America I think, is that what yours is set to?
