If migrants are stealing all your jobs and buying up all the houses, they're not contributing to poverty in Texas. Sorry, can't have it both ways in fantasyland pal.

America has been weakened, our nation is ridiculed, unemployment has risen and job creation is negative, inflation is still above target and was above target all year, GDP is downtariffs have cost us all, and we have a demented clown for a president... bUt aT lEaShT gAs PriCeS are LoWeR.

Things are fine for me, but I'm not some fake-ass Christian, I actually worry what this does to our poor and vulnerable.

Nice little fantasy world you live in of negativity. I’m sorry you live in such a depressing situation of high prices and Taxes. My son sells homes for builders. He recently went from selling solar panels back to real estate. He had several builders wanting him. They all say business is booming. Next year is going to be a record year. It took him less than two days to get his new job. My old equipment company is booming. It’s nationwide. So where ever you’re depressed area may be. Sorry about that.

@Atlas Stan is a reasonably good person but he’s not capable of intelligent discussions that don’t impact his little world. Outside that he’s pretty much a stuffed monkey doll.

Nasty man continues. He continues to pollute threads when the OP asks him to stay original to the theme. Nasty man. At least he found a new Debbie Downer to play with. They’ll soon will be at odds, a common theme. Entertaining it is.

Doubt it. I don't agree with everyone on everything. That would be boring. I tend to get along with people who can spot obvious lies and deception, from all walks of life.

Or make them up to serve their narrative.

Like an inflation report that only includes gas prices and car sales?

Woke up and gas still isn't $2.

Gas tax in CA is 0.61 per gallon. I wonder where the extra cost goes?

Also:

As of July 2025, the gasoline tax in California is 61.2 cents per gallon. Additionally, Californians pay various other taxes and fees, bringing the total tax burden on gasoline to nearly 90 cents per gallon.

abc7.com.ico abc7.comwww.gov.ca.gov.ico California State Portal

California Gasoline Tax Rates

Current Tax Rates

Type of Tax Rate (per gallon)
State Excise Tax $0.612
Federal Motor Fuel Tax $0.184
Sales Tax 2.25% (plus local district taxes)

Additional Costs

  • Low Carbon Fuel Standard: Adds approximately $0.47 per gallon.
  • Cap-and-Trade Program: Adds about $0.30 per gallon.

Total Tax Burden

Californians pay nearly $0.90 per gallon in taxes and fees, which includes the state excise tax, federal tax, sales tax, and additional costs from environmental regulations.

These taxes contribute to funding road maintenance and infrastructure projects across the state.

So there is $0.90 that will never change.

I wish they would give the prices on the news or other services broken down.

Cali retailers have to try and make more off each gallon to pay for all the higher costs of Cali than say some other areas. Having been in the retail fuel dispensing business, it's not easy to make a buck. You make  money on the price changes. The big jump and the slow slide back down

For nationwide comparison, I'd like to see just the base cost for fuel product. Only way to do apples to apples, imo

Those prices are from Palm Springs which does not add any additional tax on the base other than 0.61 state and 0.18 federal. This is true, CA participates in Cap and Trade and they require low carbon fuels.

0.61 state + 0.18 federal + 0.47 LCFS + 0.30 CT = $1.56 in state/federal and carbon programs.

So subtract $1.56 from $4.39 (lowest price in the list I posted). Gas is still $2.83 gallon base price. Add 0.18 back because all states pay federal tax and the base is then $3.01.

The math ain't mathin' when it's still a dollar higher in the World's 4th Largest Economy compared to Texas.

I personally haven’t seen under 2$. I paid 2.19 yesterday. Two miles down the road I’ve seen 2.49. At the interstate I saw 2.11. Do I believe in some areas it’s under 2$. Sure. Do I think those stations are using gas as a lost leader? No. Generally do I believe cost overall are trending down, yes. The current formula has always paid off in about 13 months from the initial inception.

The stations reporting the lowest prices in the nation (rumored to be Lubbock, Tx) do use fuel as loss leaders. It's Walmart and Costco and they subsidize the price of fuel as part of their memberships and store models. But OK, you're right.

    • I understand that. The price is what it is, though. The price is what oil costs today, where our choices have led us, where supply is, and where demand is, in the market that is. Speculation is for futures, what we think the price will be, but with incomplete information at the time the price is forecast. I know you know this, but you appear to be intent on making a secondary point here about what you think the market could or should be, if only other choices.   In 1975 it became illegal to export US Crude. I'm conflicted on what the best answer is. Free markets allow export in pursuit of profit. But there is also a lot to gain by producing and consuming our own oil here. How do you reconcile it?
    • That sir is a choice. And even if it were not for all the reasons stated, this disruption has zero to do with the reality of the actual logistics and everything to do with the greed of SPECULATION. Spot price is irrelevant to reality.
    • What I think you're saying is there is supply here at home, and in Venezuela, and we could ease pricing if only it were favorable to do so.   Well, yes?   But that's not the current market. Supply isn't what could someday exist, if only, it's what producers are willing to produce and sell at a certain price point.   The national price of single family homes would come way down if we'd just slap together a few million homes this summer.   RAM and GPUs would get a lot cheaper if we just set up some factories to produce a bunch more and stopped using it to build out AI data centers.
    • The turn signal/multifunction switch is faulty.  I've seen a few of these go bad at work.
