This is more of a question of curiosity than necessity.  I had to take out my rear seats to get to my vent covers in the back, seem likes they were knocked out of place.  I notice there wasn’t any wiring coming out of the rear seats, so it made me wonder:  How does the Rear Seat Reminder work, is it a wireless sensor in the seat(s) itself?

There is no sensor for the rear seat. I used to get that warning even if the rear seats were empty. Its an option in your cluster to remove the notification. I ended up just removing that reminder.

The system monitors whether the rear doors are opened within 10 minutes before the vehicle is started or anytime after it's running.  If you don't open a rear door, you won't get a notification.  Or you can turn the whole thing off.

Salsa is right, the BCM just monitors if the rear doors have been open during that ignition cycle.

You can disable it in the vehicle settings in the radio.
