I can't find much in the way of up to date information.  I do not pay for an onstar subscription.  I'm getting rather tired of the dealership I bought the truck from knowing about my driving habits.  I don't need or want them calling me when its time for an oil change or anything else.  It was even more creepy when I got service today and they knew the exact mileage before looking inside my truck. How can I disable this completely? If I could start my truck from my cell phone without paying for onstar, that's one thing, but I dont need it as a revenue enhancer for the dealership

Easiest way would be disconnect the antenna. Remove the driver side A pillar trim and you will find the antenna connection about 6" down from the top of the pillar. If you have XM that antenna is a combination plug there so if you disconnect it and use XM it will disable that as well unless you separate them.

Also there is a "disable location services" option in the radio menu. I don't know how much that actually disables though. I know in cell phones even if you disable location, emergency services and your cell provider can still get your location.

Wait until he finds out what cookies are on a computer and that his cell phone provider knows alot more about him than he thinks.

I don't pay for Onstar either but I get an email from them once a month about my trucks condition, doesn't bother me any. Never had a dealership tell me I'm do for a service and neither has my parents who bought a 2021 truck new off the lot.

Why not just tell the dealership to stop with the unsolicited cold calls.

How to disable OnStar tracking would be pretty useful info for any thieves  snooping through here.

My dealership calls me about every six months saying "Jeff, your Sierra may be due for service." It has nothing to do with OnStar. They're just going based off of time since I was last there. They also don't care about your driving habits, they're just trying to drum up business for the service department, which, in turn, may drum up business for the sales guys as well.

As others have noted, your ISP and cell phone carrier know a lot more about you than GM does.

They already know and more. There's been several vehicles that get stolen direct from the assembly plants here in Michigan. They rip out the module or rip off the antenna.

Let's not forget, onstar has the ability to shut your car off. My job is IT security and let me say that them getting hacked and holding cars ransom is a real possibility they don't like to admit.

Totally wrong, the only way onstar can shut your vehicle off is through law enforcement that your vehicle is reported stolen and in pursuit it's up to there discretion when to do it, you cannot call onstar and tell them to shut it down only law enforcement can through approval.

You have zero idea how hacking actually works, don't you?

If you are in the Northern Plains States you may as well disable it. They could not find me in Montana!

How could they not find you?
