What is the next radio upgrade I can do? Looks like my truck came in with factory installed IOR and I want to update it to the next available option without the navigation system. Wireless CarPlay perhaps. Maybe be able to add trailering option in the future? Any help highly appreciated, thank you

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to say upgradng an IOR radiio is extremely difficult if not impossible. Everything in your truck is designed for IOR not IOS or any other radio. I have heard and read about others who have upgraded and they spent alot of money and lost some funtionality form the sound system. You could research this forum for more details or try White Automotive Services.

Correct as of this time there is no way to upgrade the IOR to anything that will function as if it were factory so we are not offering anything.

I think the OP was in luck as his photos showed Onstar as a menu option in his truck.  The key is whether or not you have Onstar (Option Code UE1) in your truck.  Some IOR trucks indeed also include Onstar.  Read on…

 

Jumping in to update with the info I got yesterday from Infotainment.com.  They are sending me their fog light retrofit kit with a OBD Genie to code it in for me.  However, although my truck has the IOR 7” audio, it does not have the UE1 onstar option code (as I believe the OP’s truck had based on his photos).  So that means that unless your IOR radio shows you Onstar as a choice on your Home Screen - unlike my truck - you cannot simply upgrade up to IOS or IOT.  We also cannot simply swap out the ACM to add SiriusXM.  But, for SXM I found a Vais Technology GSR-GM03 Adapter, sold online by Crutchfield for $289.

This unit allows you to use a SiriusXM SXV300 tuner and feed it into your USB inputs for the truck.  I’m sure the interface is a bit of a kludge as it will appear in your list of sources as an iPod.  However, I think it’s worth a try considering Crutchfield’s generous 60-day return policy.  Of course, the 7” IOR has plug-in CarPlay so that is a great solution already.  I plan to upgrade the speakers and loop in my AudioControl D-6.1200 DSP amp and a behind-the-seat subwoofer to achieve a respectable sound in this work truck.

 

Chirs White and I have already exchanged notes about putting in a High Country cluster, programmed with extra functions and with HUD support.  I have a used black leather steering wheel coming that will provide me with audio controls once I connect it up using a “Harness Dr.” harness that WAMS recommends.  HUD?  Yes, it seems that folks have retrofitted HUDs into these low trim level “work trucks.”  Last year  I did the same thing to a 2021 Camaro LT1 with the help of WAMS as well.  

 

These retrofits are fun!

@fernando flower Have you figured out how to upgrade your infotainment system from IOR to IOK? I have a 2024 Silverado 2500HD with IOR infotainment system and also want to upgrade to IOK so I can add the trailering camera system that includes side blind spot cameras and front camera. From what I can tell GM does not have a IOK radio that can replace the IOR radio, so I’m hoping you have maybe found a solution?

IOK is also not optional on the trims that don't have it standard.

(some years they have optional audio upgrades orderable for some trims)

I have  2020 Silverado RST with the IOR infotainment system.  I do have OnStar also and my package includes Navigation thru onstar.  Is it possible to upgrade to the IOU.

I have attempted this upgrade. I may revisit it in a couple weeks. I’ve pieced some info together  they maybe can point someone in the right direction. If you have a ior radio you have to have onstar for this to work. A new screen is required, ior and iOS/T radios are not the same. You will need an adapter harness of some sort. I used a speaker break out harness from metra. Some wires move between the two connectors. 2 or 3 wires have to be ran to the onstar module on the driver side of the dash. A new Ivds cable is required. Optional but I ran the wires to the cluster for audio info to display. That is as far as I got with the upgrade. I was able to get the radio to power on and display info in the cluster but was not able to get the screen to come on or the steering wheel controls to work. So I got audio info but couldn’t control the radio any.

      There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.

      I have a 2026 2500 HD Ultimate. My phone app says there’s a software update available. It’s something about improved battery management and something to do with the running boards. I follow the instructions for the update but the “Check for Updates” option is greyed out in my settings menu. Has anyone else seen this? How did you resolve it? The help message just says “see your dealer” if the download doesn’t work. I’m just trying to save a trip.

      Fuel mileage?  That's all how you use your right foot.  Exhaust will give you sound.   Stock exhaust 5.3 is 2.75" diameter piping.     If the truck is nice and worth putting some $$ into it, I'd go for a Corsa catback.  I had one on my 2019 old body 5.3 and it was just perfect.  Zero drone, just driving around and cruising on the highway you'd think it was stock, but when you opened it up it was like a Camaro with the factory dual mode.  Corsa bumps their catback to 3in diameter.
