My iPhone connects automatically when I drive my 23 Trailboss. I have noticed that the battery level drops rapidly and the phone is warm to the touch after an hour of driving even when I’m not using Waze or other apps. My wife has the same experience with her 23 Tahoe. What can I do to stop this? This was never an issue with 2019 Sierra.

How old are the phones?  I noticed when I got my new RST in May, that my 3 year old Moto Z4 was struggling.  It was working hard to keep up with the demands of AA and the infotainment system.  If I had Maps and Spotify going, it was working overtime.  Due to all of this, it wasn't keeping up with the wireless charger, and getting hot.

After putting up with countless freezes and disconnects, etc, I finally upgraded to a new Moto Edge+ 2023 and every thing is fine now.  It's having no problem keeping up with the demands, stays cool, and the wireless charger keeps it at 100%.  My guess is, the old phone was running at 100% to try to keep up and couldn't, and as a result was burning the battery and getting hot.

The phone is less than a year let. I understand the draw when I’m using GPS but how do I limit it when all I want is the ability to take a call or text message occasionally.

My last iPhone was so old it wasn’t getting supported so I bought a iPhone 13 mini. Even the 13 gets warm running the GPS and pandora or iHeart radio together. I always have it charging while it’s being used for those purposes. I keep it cool by having my phone holder positioned in front of the AC vent. It doesn’t seem to be a problem with the new iPhone.

I don't have this issue with my 23 Sierra, had a 13 pro, just got a 15 pro, no issues with either.

One option is don't use Carplay or AA.  Only connect via BT for the phone. You should have no issues there.

Apple 13 shouldn't have a problem, but yes this Infotainment system does require some power to run.  Now that that I upgraded to a new flagship all is well.

Stop using it wirelessly for Apple Carplay.  WiFi and Bluetooth have to be on if I recall correctly to use wireless Carplay, so its transmitting all the time.

It’s a pain.  The easiest thing to do is always put your phone on the wireless charger if you have it.

Unfortunately apple play will automatically start your gps program.  I use Waze. When I get in the truck, after apple play starts, I shut off Waze.  The thing is that it’s running in the background.  Look in the top left on your phone screen and the time will be shown with a blue highlight around it.  Press that and Waze will pop up.  Then you can close it.  As long as you don’t turn it back on, you’ll be fine.  Anytime it’s on when you shut off the truck, it will default to being on when you next start up apple play.

Go into your connection settings in the infotainment and unselect the AA/carplay option. Then use the wired connection OR just turn on your wifi hotspot and connect your truck to the wifi and use the infotainment system apps.
