What radio models is this available for?  I have a 2020 lt all-star, and have not gotten an email or notice for this.

This is for the 2022.5 "refreshed" interiors with the large touchscreen so you won't see anything for your vehicle.

Did anyone get lucky and have the Y175 update come down through an OTA patch after having the dealer install the Y172 update? My radio is running on Y172 and still glitches every now and then where I need to reboot the radio a few times to get rid of the issue. My problem has been the USB audio will quit sometimes and never come back until I reboot the radio, the built in google maps app will freeze, my phones connection whether through bluetooth only or the full android auto will connect then drop and I will need to either reboot the radio or remove my phone from the radio and re-add it as a new device again to get it back to normal.

Definitely more bugs than I had before updating the thing. Plus I've studied the android automotive OS update notes at https://source.android.com/docs/security/bulletin/aaos and there is a update for January 2025 security patches but no news or update offered through OTA checks.

I'm just not sure if the OTA updates will even come to me since i'm not paying for onstar, even though the truck claims the ability to update via WiFi which I am always connected to in the driveway. And being the recall is marked as completed with the dealer installing the buggy Y172 firmware I doubt they will cover going to Y175 but I am under bumper to bumper still.

Hello everyone,

I came in for this recall in October 24 and only the serial data module was updated. No radio update was complete. I’m here today to have them do the radio and I am being told the radio is NOT part of the recall and I have to pay for it as my bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired. Can anyone here who works for GM confirm this for me? Thank you.

You don’t need someone employed by GM to confirm, it’s directly stated in the service bulletin, the radio update is no longer included.

Should it have been included back in October when I first brought it in? I can’t find the specific document that lists my year online. Only the 2023/2024 models.

I'm pretty sure it was removed from being part of the recall at that point.

Contact Chevy Customer Care and have a conversation with them about the entirety of the issue and see if they might be able to assist with a 'goodwill' service to update that software for you based on the following:

- GM knows that OTA updates are breaking functionality and issued this recall specifically to address that problem (at least in part)

- GM knows there are issues with the Infotainment systems and have built new software packages but have not allowed them out via OTA updates (likely because of point #1)

- Specific issues you are having that are addressed in the updates - you will need to know what symptoms you are dealing with to explain to them

When they did mine, the did do a software update which corrected a couple of problems I was having (the biggest of which was the auto fan control not working properly and dropping down to Low if the radio was on). The update they applied, however, introduced NEW issues including static from my speakers when on a bluetooth call, the wipers activating randomly when I turn on the directional, and the selected information screen in the center of my dash randomly changing to one of a few different info screens that I never use (I have to use the right side 'wheel' to scroll back to the screen I want). Something else that is happening frequently, but I haven't see a lot of posting about this from others, is my radio will be muted when I start the truck even though it wasn't muted when I turned it off.

I have also had an issue where the MAX DEFROST setting wouldn't actually defrost my windshield to remove ice from a storm the night before. I don't know if this is related to the software update or not, but I've kind of just given up on the whole thing. The dealership is useless and fixes absolutely nothing, and GM knows about all of these issues but refuses to acknowledge them (let alone fix them). I drove my last truck for 8 years and 100k miles. This one is approaching 18 months and 7k miles and I'll be happy to see it go when it does. I'm done with GM vehicles.

Thank you for this. It took a while but I found the NHTSA number related to it and was able to download the document. GM removed the radio update portion of the recall 4 days before my appointment with no notification. So even though it was included when my appointment was made they didn’t honor it.

Hopefully the defrost issue isn’t part of it as I live in the high desert had several inches of frozen snow on my truck this morning 😒

California Governor is talking having a per mile driven tax on top of everything else. So not sure I want an update to the computer

interface module that reports to anyone about my driving habits. This maybe a benign update but maybe not. Californians have

already gone from 10% personal income tax to 13% and services are worse and restrictions are as well. That's a 30% increase in income tax. So, Is it safe to update my software? I want this Governor gone! OH, when you retire with the minimum required IRA distributions CA wants part of that even if you have left the State.

I had my truck in for service this morning (oil change and tire rotation) as well as to have N242435631 taken care of.  Took pictures of my software versions before and after and there were no changes in anything.  Odd.

I just love my shittyrado. I went to my dealer this morning to have them attempt and update the radio from the Y172 update they installed as part of the recall in the fall and put me on at least Y175 but they did nothing to my truck.

The build numbers did not change at all and there is no history of the update under previous updates when looking at the system update page on the radio.

The dealer service manager is thinking we need to replace the radio module to fix the issue but will confirm that with GM and the tech. I also opened a case with GM customer service about this issue.

From past issues with the radio, anytime a update was applied to the radio whether OTA or at the dealership, it will always result in a new build number in the about screen on the radio, plus it will also show the .mdf (I believe that was the extension) file and the date it was installed on the radio when you go to settings->updates->previous updates.

Did anyone who has the bluetooth audio crackling issue get your dealership to fix the issue by simply updating your radio to Y175 version firmware? Also, did they give you any specific bulletin number detailing the Y175 firmware being required?

yours is on android 12 and has the Y175 version I was demanding the dealer to install but they didn't do ****** with it.

So far the dealer said they will be ordering a new radio module and once it comes in they will install it and program it in hopes it fixes the issue. Still such a waste of hardware when it just needs a damn reflash to the same build number you have.

As I posted earlier I got the radio updated with 175. If I remember correctly I had some minor problems after having it done at dealership, nothing major, volume controls on back side of steering wheel did not work and something else, but I cannot remember the details. Took it back to dealer and they repeated the update and no problems since. I just got an over the air update and everything seems to be working just fine.

Since you have received the OTA, do you still have an active onstar subscription or did you get it updated via your home WiFi? I've been trying to figure that one out. It claims it can update over WiFi but I only had one OTA since I bought the truck over a year and a half ago and it was when I had an active onstar subscription. The only onstar service I still have active is the remote feature with the app which isn't really used often by me.

    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
    • I have 2 choices.
    • Do you have access to BP fuels? Some stations have Silver 91 E-0 priced the same as their 93 E-10.  There is a local Marathon with 90 alky free for $6 a gallon but I go down the road to BP for $5-ish. They also have a 100 E-0 but that stuff is $10 a pop.
