I’ve been wanting to make the tow hooks I have red colored. Is it better to get the hook or a cover?  Cover may be easier but is it worth it?

Depends on if you actually use your tow hooks or not. You could get away with covers if not. Getting red tow hooks will look more authentic though, at a cost of course.

The part number for the red hooks is 84513877

About $100 picked up from the dealer if you have one close that lets you order online.

Or just remove the stock ones and clean and degrease them and buy a can of red enamel spray paint and just paint them. Spray primer if you really want the best results. Very easy job.

The red ones on my wife's 1500 RST are just fine after 2 1/2 years.  It appears they know how to add UV protectant to that color to keep them from turning pink...

I posted this question a while ago. I havent noticed any faded T1XX hooks on the street. I had the hooks from my K2XX powder coated. After a couple of years, they started to fade.

I thought about doing this but then thought it might not look very good against a chrome bumper. All of the factory trucks with red hooks are painted bumper trucks.

I think it looks good but I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

My truck is black so the red tow hooks would set it out from every other black 2500HD crew cab. My previous truck was blue w/ a  chrome bumper.

I ditched the stock black ones and ordered red replacement ones.  Much better.  I think it offsets the color better.

I also removed the plastic chrome Z71 on the upper fenders and replaced with a black chrome/red insert Z71.

I had engine badges (where the Duramax badges go on the hood) 6.6 L8T made up.  Black with red insert lettering.

Also inserted black stainless "CHEVROLET" on the tailgate.  MBRP cat back exhaust with black tail pipe insert.  Oil catch can installed too.
