Sagging Driver Side Door

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Anyone thats gotta 94' or up pickup should be familiar with the sagging door. I did a search on All Data and this is apparently pretty common. Where the door will sag just a little bit and cause the top corner to hit the inside jam everytime you close the door.

How might one fix this problem? Is there a replacement joint or something that I can get at an auto part store? I wouldnt' think this would be too difficult to do. I normally wouldn't care as my door doesn't leak water, but the wind noise from teh highway is starting to drive me  and its completely chiped paint off that corner.

Any help would be much appriciated

The door pins and bushings need replaced. The thing is if the door has been doing this for some time without being fixed, the hinge may be worn as well. If that is the case the pins and bushings won't completely fix it. You can get the parts at any good parts store. Most have them in stock. Look in the HELP section.

Another old body shop trick if the bushings are not too worn is to open the door about 4 inches and place a 2x4 x 10-15 inches long under the flat recessed part of the door bottom ( not the outer edge/door skin) at the end furtherest from the hinges and carefully jack up several inches on the bottom of the door with a floor or bottle jack to spring it up slightly. Hold the door steady so it will not slip off the 2x4 while jacking. The 2x4 distributes the jack loading so it does not bend or wrinkle the door bottom. Do it slightly several times so you do not get it too high. Worked on my 98 2500 with moderately worn bushings and with my 2000 2500 with slightly worn bushings. Keep them oiled/greased and wear is minimized. These truck doors are still heavy compared to late model cars.
