Plows

Looking to buy a new snow plow this year since the Farmers Almanac says it will be one of the worst winters yet. I want one that doesn't cut up the plastic bumper valance too much. I've seen one plow frame that only notched the valance w/o cutting all the way through but there was no markings on it and no driver around. Any ideas or advice on what is the best choice without selling off the first born.

The advice is great but Boss, Fisher and Meyer all require the front air dam to be cut 3"x3" on each frame rail. Snoway is a 5" cut. There is 1 out there that doesn't have to cut and it bolts on with a tubular mount. Ive seen it only once and there wasn't a plow mounted so I could get the name. I'd like not to cut that air dam if necessary.

Depends what you're going to do with it. If you are planning to plow for money, Fisher plows are the only way to go. If it's for your own use, many of the others will be ok. I've been plowing streets for the town for 11 years with my current Fisher 9' on a 1990 3500 454. Still plows great and the plow is still in great condition. I wear out a 5/8" X 6" cutting edge every 2 years and replace the Sno-Guard curl every couple of years too.

There are many companies making great plows. Go to the plow site look though the FAQs. There is a section broke down by plow manufacture with lots of threads on all kinds of plows.

i'm running a boss plow on mine. two small notches in valance is all it needs.

At the GMC dealer I bought my truck from they sell both Boss and Western and both looked pretty good to me. The new ones have a quick connect system too (reminded me of my Glacier Plow for my Sportsman).

Let the favoritism begin!

BOSS is the best for Private/Light commercial plowing, just look at a Boss and Western side by side, and you will see. However they do weigh a little more. I would also look at a Hiniker, I started to see more of these on trucks in west Michigan last winter, and talking to users they love them.

Correct me if I am wrong but I heard that BOSS is the only plow maker that has downward pressure on the blade... Good for scrapping up the junk left when plowing.. Seen a lot of plows that just leave a good trace of slush/hard pack snow.. I don't have a plow on my truck even thou it came with the plow prep... Don't know to many people that are going to plow with a crew cab long box.. :D The person that ordered this truck at the dealership must have been an idiot snow plow prep but no winter package.. Hello McFly. They had two of them on the lot.. The 6.0L I got and a 8.1... (I should have gottan the 8.1 this 6.0 has been more trouble than its worth)

I didn't know boss had down pressure. I know Sno Way does and I think Curtis. Mostly used for backdragging when you have a lightweight blade.

In regards to the plow prep. I know a few who got it with no intension of getting a plow. They wanted the larger (145amp) alternator and skid plates that come as part of the plow prep option.

Hmm. I used to plow with a HD Ext cab and a 7.5 Fisher Plow. Because I have 3 kids, I now plow with a crew cab and a 7.5 Fisher Plow. Only difference in body is about 9 inches. And I have the best of both worlds.. :D

PLOWS............Everybody has their favorites. There are many brands to choose

from.

You should purchase a plow on your needs............

Just your driveway, large commercial lots, city streets.............

Which plow dealer is closest to you? Which is open 24 hrs. during a

storm?

What truck do you have? Is it equipped to plow snow ?

Ya can't hang a 9 ft. fisher V on a S-10 !

My personal favorite is a Western rig ! Priced right and bulletproof !

Fisher is a pretty stout unit but very heavy for these new GMs............

Those new Blizzard plows with those expandable wings are nice too...........

Some folks swear by Meyers plows...Some swear at them !!!!!!

Check out http://www.snowplowing-contractors.com/forums

Lots of plowheads over there to help ya out !................geo

The only thing I can tell you for sure is with the Meyer "MD" mounting system the valance doesn't need to be trimmed or touched at all!!

That is what we have on our parts truck ('04 2500HD Reg.cab long-bed 6 liter) and it works great for us around here on the lot! :D

The Western Ultramount doesn't require trimming either. I've seem quite a few trucks with that setup and it doesn't look like its trimmed. I'm looking at an 8' Western Poly Pro myself...

GUYS........Both my 01 and 04 HDs required the air dam be trimmed

for my Western Ultramount installation.....................

My buds Fisher MM 2 Vee also required trimming...........

I have seen a Boss and Blizzard installations in PERSON and they both

require trimming..............(My bud owns a plow shop)

My bud has a new meyers set up on a 01 1/2 ton Chevy. I think the tubes slide intothe top mount. Will have to check for trimming

Another fella HERE at GMT called Tryntolearn. He has a 04 GMC 1/2 with a meyers

II setup. His air dam required trimming. His posts are in the 1500/2500ld threads.

Note this is on ALL on GM trucks....................... :D .........geo
