Silverstars from Sylvania...like them?

Hi guys...read a few posts on sylvania silverstars recently...let me here some opinions from some of you that have had them a while. Do you have any pics to show how they look at night? How long did it take to put them in? Are you happy with your lamps, was it worth the bucks? Have they lasted well? I assume these are OK for our trucks as far as the housing is concerned...in other words, they do not melt anything, right? Finally, if I replace them I will more than likley do High (9005ST), Low (9006ST), Daytimes (4114L) and Fogs (9415ST)...what part numbers should I get (I notice there are a few different options on the Sylvania site), and is it necessary to replace all of these...? I don't have any yet, but I'm about to buy some. A lot of people on here like them...I haven't read too many bad things about those bulbs. I wouldn't bother with the DRLs though...

I put them in my 99 Suburban because the stock headlights just didn't seem that bright anymore. Anyway I only did the low beams and they are very nice. I did find after installing them and using the truck at night part of my problem might be adjustment. So I still need to adjust the headlights. The drivers side seems to be pointing down more than the other side. Also, when I turn on my bright lights they just seem yellow now compared to my low beam silverstars.

I have had them for a while and like them. I replaced the lows only on my 98 and the difference was incredible. After replacment, I polished my lenses with Flitz to make them clear again, now the difference is night and day.

Ive got the Hi and Lo bulbs and love them! What a difference, I wish they came stock. When I flash my Hi beams all four light up and wow, lots of white light. Havent had a chance to take a road trip through the desert at night yet to see the Hi's in action but I know they are way better than the stock Halo bulbs.

 

Go get them, youll like them.

I have had them for like 3 yrs??? Since they first came out. I had one burn out after a yr so I just put the original in until I changed both out about a month ago. I also had the fog light bulbs. I had one burn out after a month. I contacted sylvania and they sent me a pair. Havent put those in yet but i did like them. I would say they are worth it and sylvania does stand behind their product.

 

Also a head up murrays runs a buy one get one 1/2 off at times. Walmart sells them in 2 packs also for like $6 cheaper than buying them single at most place

Just had to replace the driver's low after about a year and 3/4. Love them, great light and look. I've got the lows, highs, and fogs. Point to note: if you go with them, don't touch the glass during the install or you can cause early failure.

You might try going to the search function and putting in silverstars.

Then reading the nine pages of past postings. It's and intersting read.

There are bulbs out there that will increase your visibility for less money.

I don’t like them as a replacement performance bulb. They look nice for what they are (an inexpensive HID looking alternative), but in my situation, in order for them to illuminate the road any better than my stock lamps; I had to re-aim my headlights to a degree that irritated oncoming traffic. In the stock position they looked cool but did nothing special when it came to lighting up dark, two lane rural highways that are also used by deer and coyotes. In the city where street lighting is abundant; they performed just as fair as our stock headlights.

 

Personally, my biased opinion rates them a 7 for looks, a 5 for performance, and a 5 for value. Once you have true HID like I have on my Sub’s, everything else is a far cry from performance lighting.

Depending on the vendor, it’s an option to have the Silverstars included as the high beam. I actually ordered mine without the Silverstars due to my past experience with them. Don’t get me wrong – I think SS’s are pretty cool for what they are but they didn’t help me in my situation / application.

 

Actually, the X2020’s won’t fit a 2004 truck (up to 2002, I think). To solve the problem on my 2003 DMAX, I now use a Kennedy Wiring Harness that gives me the high and low beams together.

Install a pair of Hella "Black Magic" lamps out front and that will solve your problems. I have a set and LOVE them when me and the "critters" are the only ones on the road. They have a "eurobeam" design which is like a narrow wide beam combined with a very long range pencil beam.

 

Like I said, I love mine, would not go without!
