Subaru WRX STI

Hey Everyone!

I was jsut about to factory order myself a Fire Red 2006 GMC Sierra EC/SB 4x4 VortecMax when I decided to stop in at a Subaru dealership and fell in love with the WRX STI. Now I can't decide whether to get the GMC or the STI. What is everyones thoughts on the Subaru?

There is about a 9k CAD price difference between the truck and the sti (the truck is quite abit cheaper) but it really isn't a big concern. My biggest problem is the idea of going from a truck to a car. I've never actually owned a car before, driving trucks all the way back to my dodge dakota in highschool and am scared of the adjustment. The only car I've really driven is my dad's 03 C5 Z06 and I love the ride/power.

I'm 21, finishing off my third year of mechanical engineering and have a really well paying full time job for my year off so I figured I don't want to waste my youth and want drive something that I can really enjoy.

Oh, insurance is not a concern at all...we did some checking and my insurance for a STI would be over $1000 dollars cheaper than my insurance on the truck. That definitely surprised all of us.

Is there anyone here who would say goodbye to driving GM trucks to drive a WRX STI?

I had truck all through highschool. two and 4 wheel drive. then I got an imoprt for the trend and loved it too. but of coarse then grew up and got another truck.

cars are great for curvy hillsides, comutes, and college chicks

think about it...

I'd say wait till the new 2007 model Chevy/GMC pickups come out, get one of those and borrow your dad's Corvette when you want to satisfy those sports car driving urges. :sigh:

If you're used to having a pickup and use it alot (hauling stuff, going off road, etc.) I think you'll miss that after awhile.

If you're married (or get married someday) buy her the WRX and you keep your pickup.

After doing some research, I can get a Trailblazer SS or Jeep SRT8 for less cash, and have more value/options. I don't really need a pickup, I just like to drive them, but a high performance SUV would be a compromise since the STI is overpriced and underloaded.

Depends what your interests are in owning a vehicle. I've done track time and autocross(parking lot racing around cones) for many years in a Porsche and a corvette very much fun and very inexpensive. The STi are always a blast to watch they are little cannons and are very nimble and quick, great for this kind of fun. Check out the SCCA web site to see whats going on in your area if you have any interest in going fast. As a street car, I'd think the STi would be a bit much as it really wants to go all the time and you just can't use it to its potential around town. I would like a STi but probably as a weekend racer more than a daily driver. Don't comprimise! Then you end up with something that doesn't do any one thing well. Our other car right now is a Land Rover Discovery, its a beast and unstoppable, but surprisingly can't haul much of any thing except groceries..

DanMan, get the STI!!!

I sold my VR6 GTI about a year and a half ago to get a crew cab Canyon and let me tell you I miss that little VW so much. Trucks are great and all: big, comfy, drive where ever the hell you want in what ever condition. Little sports cars are just plain old fun though, and the STI would be way more enjoyable then my GTI was. Trust me, I’m 22, from Canada, and work in engineering consulting... we are on the same level here.

Save the truck for when you have a lot of stuff to haul around like kinds and strollers.

I'm pretty sure a SUPERCHARGED Fire Red 2006 GMC Sierra EC/SB 4x4 VortecMax, would solve all of your probs.

By the way let me know what price they are offering for that VortecMax, through a post or PM please.

They were offering a fully loaded Vortec Max for about 45K canadian. But I found the best of both worths and put down a factory order for a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer SS with AWD. I took one for a test drive and loved it. Plus I get to stay with a good ol' GM V8, still have something that is almost a truck and can just borrow my dad's torch red Z06 for really cruising.

I figure I'll wait for a few years then go buy a used Z06 or a Dodge Challenger to fit the fast car spot in the garage.
