Gun choices

I am getting ready to buy an AR-15 style carbine.

I am looking at Olympic, Rockriver and Bushmaster.

I am hoping for a barely used one that someone needs to get some cash for, but new is not out of the question.

Any opinions?

I've shot a Bushmaster. I liked it alot, but I haven't shot either of the other two brands. Either way, you'll love it. I like shooting it more than any other gun.

Wilson Combat makes solid rifles on the AR 15 frame (colt frame if I'm not mistaken). They offer some pretty high end components in some models, they are worth checking out.

We have bushmasters. Can't say I've seen any problems with them so far.

I've got 2 Bushmasters, and I really like them. They are excellent target shooting rifles, as well as varmint guns. My brother has popped a couple nice Coyotes and Bobcats with ours. I'm more of a Soviet guy myself (my Varmint gun is an SKS) but you can't go wrong with a Bushmaster as long as you know how to keep it clean

I have DPMS and PWS both 1996.

The DPMS is very well finished. The PWS is above average typical for OEM

In order of quality (highest to lowest):

Colt

Aramlite

Rock River

Bushmaster

Bushmaster makes a fine gun, but Colt and Aramlite are better, IMO.

DPMS is complete junk. Don't consider them or waste your money. A shooting buddy bought three DPMS rifles and all had serious problems. One member of our shooting group commented, "Don't ever buy somthing with PMS in the name." Sage advice.

I've used my Bushmaster for work for the past five years, no complaints at all. Great on the range for quals. I think all LEO's use Bushmaster's or Colt's for their long rifle. My agency runs with Bushmaster's. What kind of stock you guys running on it, collapsable (sp?)

Off topic for LEO's...Where do you guys keep your AR; in a case in the trunk or up in the cab mounted between front seats? I've heard mixed results of keeping it locked in the case in the trunk...safety and firing reasons that is.

I built my own M4A3 style for way less than youo could buy it. I have a forged DPMS lower and the A3 upper (4-pos collapsable stock, flat top upper, functional flash hider/muzzle brake.) I"ve got a RRA rear sight that is ready to accept optics such as EOTech or AimPoint. The only problem with my rifle is some of my mags don't have the good followers and I get a misfeed. Other than that I love it. Total investment was about $750. If you have the time and expertise, do-it-yourself is the way to go. If not, any of the above commercial manufactrers should be fine.

It sounds like you saved yourself about $150-200

There is a major gun distributor in my town, CDNN.

Most of the dealers here get a good dealer discount and will pick up any gun you want if you buy through them for 10% over their cost.

I can get a Bushmaster Patrolman A3 for $900, and that comes with a factory case.

I'm leaning towards that...
