ABS light came on

Well yesterday I started up my truck 5 min after I just turned it off from after driving 5 miles. And I noticed my ABS light was on. So I turned it off and started it up again, and sure enough it popped up again.

Well the truck braked fine, I even tried to lock them up at 25mph, and it stopped hard like it should with out skidding.

So I thought it was just maybe a faulty code, So I took it to a local brake shop, for them to check the code. And 30 min later the guy tells me my ebcm, abs brake pump or known as the bpmv (brake pump motor valve) needs to be replaced. The EBCM is not sending out any voltage.

The guy tells me with parts and labour, and re-bleeding the brakes....etc it will be close to 3 grand. Well after I soiled myself, I realized that I still have 2000 miles left on me ext. warranty, but with a 200 deductible.

The guys haven't started working on it yet, because the warranty place is sending out an inspector to make sure the shop isn't BS'ing them, sometime in the next 48 hours. But luckly my warranty covers a rental truck.

Is this something that happens often? What would cause it to go out? Only mods are 285 tires from 265 tires, in a 2002 Silverado ext. cab z71 5.3.

I would appreciate anyone's input or spare 100 bills.

Well then inspector guy came out, and he saw the ABS light, and they cleared the codes in front of him, and they went out for a test drive, so the inspector could see the ABS light come on, and of course now it won't come on.

So the inspector said he would be back tomorrow, and that they have all day to get the ABS light back on.

So now I'm going to get ripped off for my rental truck, that my warranty covers if my truck isn't really broken. Obviously they won't cover my fees for a rental if there is nothing wrong with my truck.

Anyone have any ideas what would make the ECBM go in an out like that.

Could be simply moisture in one of the electrical connectors. Did they unplug the connectors and clean them?

There are a few relays internal to the EBCM that can stick intermittently. I would tell the inspector that it is an intermittent condition and you would like to know what caused the codes that were there before he cleared them. Ask him if it comes on next week, is the warranty company going to reimburse you for the rental car for this visit? Get it in writing.

Thanks guys for the help. Well my baby has been driven for about 100 miles. With lots of brake slamming, on and off road. We can't get the light back on.

From what I understand the EBCM, and the brake pump motor, neither were showing any voltage or signal. But now everything seems to be fine.

I have all of their paperwork from their ALLDATA software. It looks like the error code is DTC C0266.
