O2 sensor problem

Recommended Posts

Posted

I started my truck up and all of a sudden i heard a rattle under the cab. I crawled under there only to find my o2 sensor b4 the cat was rattling. I replaced it with bosch replacement. No problems since

But i was wondering what causes an o2 sensor to look like this?

any ideas?

thanks,

Matt

Well i do have 150000 miles on it. But it wasnt throwing any codes, the only reason i knew to change it was the rattle.

I just wasnt sure if there was something that was overly wrong with the old one that i need to worry about or something that was making it like that.

I am not sure if that is just how they are supposed to lookwhen they are finished or not ?

I have an O2 that threw a code a few weeks ago. Father in-law and I cleared it and I was going to replace but never got around to it. And now its working fine and hasn't tripped anything since. :chevy:

On a side note, I replaced mine because my mileage had dropped by about 2 mpg over a year+. I knew because I keep a spreadsheet with every tankfull and all maintenance. They were not setting a code but I think they get "lazy" before they set codes. When I replaced the front 2, my mileage immediately went back up. I changed them at about 80K and again at 170K when I replaced the Y-pipe due to cats rattling from rust. I only replaced the front 2 as the rear ones are only there to confirm the cats are working and they have no effect on A/F mixture.

hey bud, looks like mine in my sonoma. Im new to the "fullsize world" but I had my o2 sensor in the sonoma replaced with a bosch. 2 years later it went bad again. I talked to the mechanic and he said that Bosch and GM dont mix very well in some circumstances. I can vouch for that statement though because i changed the spark plugs with bosch platinums and they only lasted 3 months before the electrode blew on one of the plugs. so just be careful when replacing parts with bosch.

Those Bosch plugs are crap (IMO), but I've only heard good things about their O2 sensors.
