How long till I notice the performance PCM?

Recommended Posts

I just received and installed my wait4me performance tune. I have driven it for only about 30 miles but I can not tell any difference. Shift points seem to be the same, power is the same. Does it take a while for it to learn it self and kick in? If so about how long? I am not getting and check engine lights so far. Do I still need to do the crank re-learn if no lights come on? I am very disappointed so far. I was expecting to drive the truck and be blown away. Maybe it will get better. Any thoughts?

you should notice something right away, and then it will improve a little after that but the changes in the PCM take effect right away. Maybe you got back a PCM that wasn t tuned?

I agree, you should have noticed it right away and it should get better as you go. I'd ask for a new tune.

I emailed him so we will see what he says. Hopefully he can tell me how to check if it has a tune in it. I know that if the truck will do more than 100 mph it has a tune but I don't feel like getting a ticket testing that out.

I ll test it for you! Seriously, if you are driving it like grandmother on a Sunday drive you will not feel too much. The shift points and trans firmness will be felt more under heavy excelarations. You should be feeling a firmer more positive shift when driving it moderatly. If not happy, call the tuner.

Any reason you went with that vendor versus Westers?

I e-mailed Jesse twice in January about a crap PCM. Havn't heard from him yet. I put the PCM in the garbage and got a DeabloSport Predator. Been happy so far.

Thanks and have a great day,

I picked wait4me because I have heard great things about them and their price is half what the others charge. Mine was $153 shipped. That is the pcm, tune and shipping. They offer lifetime free re-tunes for ony the cost of the shipping. So if you add bigger tires, supercharger, dual exhaust or anything else you just put the original pcm back in, mail the performance on to Jesse and he will tune it and send it back for for $8.50 or whatever shipping is.

I have had 2 of them, The tune performance will depend a lot on what you ask him to do..On my last one i wanted a firmer 1-2 shift and it shifts exactly as i would want it to now..My power is greater and over all drive ability is better..

I had him set it up for 93 octane and max gas millage and ya the truck is an 02 Tahoe 5.3

uh6077, did you find anybody in the FTCKY area that will do the re-learn and if so, how much are they looking for?

Im planning on getting one of these PCMs when I come home from the land o sand in a short amount of time and would love to know if there is someone around that actually knows how to do it already.

Thanks

I put my Westers in my truck last night (this is the second truck i have tuned courtisy of westers).

I did a run before and 0-60 was 9.44 and 1/4 mile was 18.99

I did a run after and 0-60 was 7.6 and 1/4 mile went to 14.6

For me it was instantaious, and I have put about 50 miles since and it seems to be getting a bit more snap. Now if my CAI would only come in...

This is on an '02 Tahoe bone stock except for the tune, being read by an Aeroforce Interceptor.

Still can't tell if it has more power but I never get the RPM's up too high so who knows. I can say that I will be getting much more MPG. I usually get about 320miles till the light came on and I then had about 2 gallons left. I have been driving the same as before, little highway but mostly city. I am at 300 miles right now and I still have a 1/4 tank left. I email Jesse and asked for a list of what was done for the tune but never heard back from him.

I would like to see that 14.6 time slip. I ran the numbers and if you weigh #5000 18.99 means you have 144.31 rwhp and 14.6 = 317 rwhp so you had to gain 172 hp???????? I thought most tunes were good for 15-20 hp.

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
