Tsb On Ebony Seat

Recommended Posts

I had my Ebony seat covers switched out today on my 07 Silverado crewcab. I dropped it off at 7:30 and it was done at 2:30 the same day. They did a great job and even hand washed the entire truck. It smells and looks brand new again!! The inserts are shinier and made of a heavier material. The outside bolsters look like the same material but I guess time will tell if they are better. I will report back in a couple of weeks what my thoughts are.

One thing I did find amazing is how much the dealership is going to get from GM for this TSB. The invoice says customer pay $0 factory warranty Pay $2272.48. To me this is just another reason why GM is in the mess they are in. When all this seat problem started over a year ago I tried to get the dealer to have GM pay me $500 (for half the cost of leather seat upgrade) and they said no way. I have a question for all you guys. Would that not have saved GM $1772.48 if they would have agreed to pay me the $500 along time ago? I know I have read in this very post where some dealers agreed to do this and some were like mine and said no way. I don't understand that at all.

Like I said I will report back after a few weeks use and let everyone know what I think..

thanks,

Jim Kiser

Make sure you find a dealer that send the work to an Upholstery shop. Mine didn't and here is what I got back from the dealership. Quality work from Dennis Dillon in Boise ID. I was also surprised to hear when I brought it back that it may or may not ever look like a factory interior again. That would have been nice to hear before they got started. Here is a quick sample. The entire install looked like shit.

Be very careful what you ask for in this world...

Seroiusly... one would think that his problem would have been solved LONG ago. The installation shown above is terrible.

Not that it means anything but, my dealer claimed he hadn't ever heard about a problem with the ebony seats ... and then I showed him mine. Doh!! I'm undecided if I wanna' have 'em changed out though.

I've been following this thread for months, and waiting to see if the solution that was offered was something that I'd want to take a chance on. Based on what the new fabric looks like and the better-than-average chance of having the dealer pooch the whole thing up, I've decided I'll live with what I've got.

Sometimes you can just keep jacking with something until it ends up worse :)

Received a post card today saying all the parts are in. I will schedule the install ASAP. Photos and comments to follow

I don't want to read 57 pages. Does the cloth in the '09 GMC / Chevys have the same problem or did they change it up??

Its the same as whats in my '07,So they have the same problems :)

Interesting how the opinions differ in consecutive posts. I can't decide if it's worth it or not to have the swap done. :dunno:

I'd swap them if you didn't have the shinier inserts to begin with. Looks like the TSB will help those owners the most.

The '07 SLE-2 I have already has those inserts to begin with. If the material on the sides is still the same, there would be no reason to change them out :D

Tough to read through this many pages :D

exactly why i walked out and told them to forget it. they showed me what appeared to be the a SL1 covers that they wanted to put on my trucks front seats and a set of slt2 rear seats covers they didn't even match. I said forget it I will buy a box of lint rollers

just keep a freaking lint roller in the truck and quit complaining! Dont buy black cloth seats next time! I get lint but I clean it with lint roller and the problem is all gone! Well 4 a couple days but oh well...I'm not gonna let them change mine if they're gonna put a cheaper seat cover in....If it drives u guys that nuts go spend a couple hundred on some leather seat covers and be done with this thread!
