The only reason I was able to get leather is because GM continued to ship the original covers to the dealership, instead of the new upgraded covers. After the 3rd set of incorrect covers, they ordered leather. Lucky me I guess.

Update on my replacements. It has been a little over a month and my seats collect lint just like the old ones. Like I said earlier, they only good this did was give me an excuse to install some Katzkin Leathers and a reason why I will never buy a vehicle from GM without leather.

Rich said that his dealership farms the work out to a local upholstery shop. He said they're pretty good. I guess it's time to get the ball rolling...

Do me a favor while you are there and peel off Rich's Z71 stickers while he's not looking, would ya?

I can do that on Saturday, actually, at the tuning meet. Unfortunately, it won't do any good as he ordered a set of those Z71 decals from Chevy's new version of the All Terrain. He'll just go home and stick 'em back on!

Oh well, make him work for it.

It is a friggin' shame that GM cannot make a seat cover like the older ones. I changed out to the katzkin leather about 6 months ago, and what a difference. They are great and I have never regretted this decision. I bought the material, my dealership had them installed by an upholstery shop, and even the service manager told me these look better then anything GMC could have provided. Save yourself the headache, and if you can afford it, go with the Katzkin and put this problem behind you.

You'd be better off buying the vehicle without leather and putting in Katzkins. The Katzkin quality beats the factory leather, hands down.

Just got mine done 2 weeks ago. Much much better than the others. The side material still gets some lint but not nearly as much. Im pleased

Getting mine done Monday. If it cuts the lint down (and vacuuming/tape de-linting etc) by half I'll be pleased. Tried to get them to go for leather but no give...

Hey All,
Yes first post but I spend a lot of time here reading. My dealer agreed to replace my seat covers with the new ones that are supposed to fix the problem. After seeing the new fabric I knew that they were going to have the same lint collecting issue so asked if I could have leather installed instead and I'd pay the difference in cost. Got an immediate no from service so took it up with the GM. He called the regional rep for sales and got passed on the the regional service guy. Got another no, they have done it before but are no longer. Called GM warranty 800 line and after giving the nice lady all my info, she transferred my to my dealer's service manager so he could tell me no again.

I thought I was being very fair in offering to pay the difference and can't see why they would refuse, but I guess they don't care. Does anyone have contact information for someone further up the food chain that might be more reasonable? As it stands, I'll have the new fabric installed just to cost GMC the money and will either live with the problem or if business improves have the leather done myself. But unless something happens and GMC agrees to my proposal I'm done with GM. After a miss spent youth of owning imports, I've been a GM buyer for over a decade but this has me thinking import again.

No not just over seat covers. Because I made a reasonable offer to cover any difference in cost but they refused out of hand. I call that unresponsive to a customers request. They would be out nothing and have a happy customer instead of one who is pissed because of f-ing company policy.

You made a reasonable offer, yes, but they also made a reasonable offer. They replaced all of the covers in your entire truck at no cost to try and make you happy. They addressed the issue and provided a solution.

If your truck goes in for other warranty work would you expect that they should follow the same set of rules you are proposing for the seat covers? If your exhaust has a leak should they be expected to help you buy a Magnaflow kit instead of just replacing or repairing the OEM kit? If your 6-disc radio breaks should they help you buy a DVD/Nav unit from Alpine rather than replacing the unit with a brand new OEM model?

Some guys here got lucky and had a dealer that helped out with the leather installs but they are the exception. They got lucky. Good for them.

I'd love to have gotten leather out of the deal too but I was told no, no and no. I moved on and am now happy with the replacements, unless of course they don't do any good and then I'll go back.

After you've had them for some time, if you are still having the same issues, I'd suggest you go back too. Until then, relax and enjoy your truck. It's better than any other truck brand out there.

I get your point, but if you had a leaking exhaust and GMC offered to replace it with another leaking exhaust is that a valid solution?

That's not the same thing. They are suggesting this will solve the problem. They are not the same parts.

You said "After seeing the new fabric I knew that they were going to have the same lint collecting issue" which is not the same as saying "I have them and based on my experience, they are gathering just as much lint as before and are no better a solution."

My point is that until you experience the same issues on the same scale, you can't expect them to do anything beyond this for the fix. I'm not guaranteeing their solution will work, only suggesting you should give it time and see. All cloth seats are going to gather some lint, it's just a matter of whether or not it's excessive like it was before.

Hopefully the different backing material will make a difference, that's all they supposedly changed anyway. If not, I'll schedule another appointment too.

I have had my seats done. The seats seem to be better as not gathering as much lint. They could have done a better job at putting the fabric on. There are some loose spots. If anyone thinks the dealer can do a good job at putting the fabric on I don't think your in luck. If they send it out to an upholstery shop I think that is the only way that it will look good. You will compare it to what the old fabric looked like and it won't compare. I have stretched and retucked mine in a few places. It looks alot better than when I left there.
