Remote Start

I recently moved to a cold climate. I want to install a remote start and was told by GM that the company niether sells nor installs a unit for a 2005 silverado HD2500 4x4, gas, automatic transmission. I went to best buy and was told that as my key did not have a chip a remote start would not work because of the computer and how it was linked to the security. Anyone know anything different?

From what I read on this board, you need codes AP8 or AP3 listed in the dash for a factory remote start.

Not having this, one would need an aftermarket remote start. I have seen these in action and seem to work fine.

Others on this board are adament against this as the installer has to splice into some important wires/cables. And a nick here and a nick there can cause untold problems.

Everything could work smoothly OR you could have a pandora's box or potential problems.

I have a Viper 790 remote start/alarm system on my 07 classic. No problems at all, got it installed at tweeter.

You were lucky. If some idiot did the work, there is no telling what problems they could cause.

That's if he had a NBS, he has an 05 which did not have factory remote start available.

I just got an 05 1500HD 6.0L auto and I had a local truck shop install a Viper VX130 in it for $275. They had to install a box that would let the truck start with the stock security system and hooked up the remote door locks too. I called Best Buy and they could install a Viper VX160 for $325 which did all of the same stuff but included an extra key fob. I can't believe the guys at Best Buy told you that they could not install a remote starter on your truck.:eek:

With just about any remote start/alarm system that is NOT vehicle specific

you need to add something like this:

h514DDLMT-fpms.gif

Crime Guard DB-DLMT Doorlock/Alarm Module

For select 1997-up Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Isuzu, Jeep, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Saab models IN STOCK

Allows easier interface with select Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Isuzu, Jeep, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Saab vehicles for doorlock/alarm integration

works with your vehicle's databus system to program doorlock and/or other functions
