Sloooooooooow Power Windows

Are all windows the same speed or just one? My driver's side got really slow just before it failed (about a month after getting slow). If just one window, get ready to replace. If all windows, look into battery or electrical problem.

^ Ive noticed the same thing with engine on/off but mine tend to be slow at other times also..

I just noticed today that when the window got all the way up, before I let off the switch, my odometer lights dimmed. I have noticed this before with my head lights but never noticed the odometer dimming.

In my case, I know it's not the battery since it's an Optima and only about 6 months old. I was considering putting in a higher output alternator. (I have extra electronics installed also though not on at the same time when I noticed the lights dimming).

I've had to replace motor in other cars. But the power window went completely dead. And it wasn't the switch. I replaced that first.

I had the same type of problem. In my case, the rear windows in my 94 jimmy got a little crooked and were binding after an adventure in a gravel pit a few years back. Had to make some adjustments. Just rolled em down some and grabbed the top with my hands and straightened. Not quite sure how they got crooked though. Probably not your problem, but it wouldnt hurt to make sure nothings binding.

silicone spray in channels

Ken

yes. Had the same issue with the driver's window on my Mazda. Silicone cured it.

I heard they got slow cause of grease/grime buildup on the tracks. Mine are slow and I am gonna do the above mentioned silicone lube.

In my Tahoe, the lights dimmed if I held the windows switch after the window was up. It did it since day one and continued even after a 210Amp alternator and cables. I didn't replace the alt because of the lights dimming...high current amplifiers :)

Sounds like a weak battery, are other systems affected? Dim lights, slow cranking?

Mine are slow and the pull is dimming the lights. Might be time for a new battery, although I have no other issues.

Thanks guys....no the lights do not dim, and yes it is both windows.....same speed with truck running or not...no problems with anything else electrical......I will try the silicone spray first.....Thanks again......Dave

Question: When you guys says spray silicon in the tracks, are you taking the door panel off and lubing the metal tracks in the door? I am assuminng that you would not want to spray silicon in the felt becuase it would trash the window everytime you rolled it up and down?

This has been posted before, here is how I fixed mine and others:

Clean all dirt/grime/dust out of tracks using a screw driver and a cloth. Next spray silicone everyplace glass touches channels. This is a very common problem no need to buy new motors.
