Piston Count

Recommended Posts

I was reading the other day about a disc jockey in the midwest somewhere that is a gearhead and regularly asks his listeners, "what is your piston count"

What he is asking is; if you add up all of the internal combustion engines that you have, (cars, trucks, lawnmowers, atvs, weedwhackers, chainsaws or anything else) what is your piston count (number of cylinders total).

I thought this was cool so I added mine up and came up with 37

So lets get this going, what is your piston count?

The larger the number, the bigger the gearhead you are.

That Disc Jockey is Joe Soucheray on AM1500 in Minneapolis, and the piston count is actually your CI or Cylinder Index. I listen to him every day on my drive home, pretty good entertainment. When the CI first came out, there were a lot of people calling up with a CI Index of 100+, most of them were a bunch of rednecks with junkyards. One of the rules is if it plugs into a outlet, even if it has a piston, it does not count. It must be powered by fuel, so all you people that have electric Air compressors listed, deduct them!!

You can see him here - www.am1500.com/garagelogic/

Have not done this in a while, lets see what I have

Sierra - 8

Bonneville - 6

Grand Am - 6

Boat(Regal - 8

(2) 2 stroke snowmobiles - 4

Riding Lawnmower - 1

Push mower 1

Weed Whipper 1

Chain Saw 1
