A Week After Purchase

I have owned my 2008 Sierra 4x4 Ext Cab for a whole week now. After driving it every day, I've formed some opinions on my purchase.

1. The 08 has alot more heat than my 06 did. We've had alot of cold weather, and I find myself turning the heat OFF at times. My 06 seemed to take forever to warm up.

2. Build quality is so-so. There seems to be an over-abundance of plastic in the interior; especially upper dash and all the door panels. I was extremely happy with my 06 interior-the looks / the feel of it. The 08 seems more "cheesy" than the 06.

3. This active fuel management, in the city, is absolutely HORRIBLE. This AFM sysyem is my biggest regret about this purchase. At 30-32 mph, the AFM kicks in, the ENTIRE TRUCK just vibrates like crazy. From steering wheel to floorpan, this sucker is shakin'--big time. I'm not exaggerating guys...it really sucks. I find myself shifting to Drive (3rd gear) more and more every day. Just alot of resonance...actually it feels like driving a V-8 with 2 plug wires crossed...that's the vibration. :flag:

4. When exiting a parking lot, and making a right turn to enter traffic, I'm getting this God-Awful SNAP - POP noise from the left front side of the truck...any ideas to what this may be?

Truck has 376 miles on it now.

Also...tell me this Active Fuel vibration garbage will smooth out ?? I can't drive this thing with the AFM on...feels like I'm in a blender.

no clue on that pop ... and i don't have AFM so can't comment on that ...

as for the interior i am guessing your has the luxury interior? ... i have the W/T setup .. and it seems on par with most of the early model interiors i have been around.

You might wanna get that looked at. Mines been smooth since I bought it.

Your issue with the AFM is,Iwould say,not usual.I've never had an issue and the only way I even know it's on is by checking the display.

I love the interior on my LTZ,cleaning is a breeze.

+1 If I didn'thave a DIC, I would never know I even have AFM. Even though mine is smooth and 100% seamless, I still think it is worthless though. There is definitely something wrong with yours.

Bring it to the dealer for the AFM and the "popping" noise.

Agreed. That doesn't sound normal. If it was there would be 239,682 threads in here about it. I'd have them check the suspension pop at the same time. Mine is smooth and quiet.

As far as interior plastic goes, I think mine is on par with the 2001 and 2005 Silverados I had. It could be nicer but it's not too bad. There is a little more hard plastic rather than soft in the new trucks. I agree with you on the looks of the older interiors. I think my 2005 looked better.

Keep us posted.

I remember the 2007 GM full size TSB on the active fuel...dealt with a "fishbite / chuggle" feeling with the engagement of the AFM...

I don't think mine would qualify for that. It just has a horrible resonance / vibration thru the whole darn truck

I just don't want the dealer to say "Oh, that's normal"

Also...if there is a problem within the Active Fuel Management System, wouldn't a Service Engine Soon lamp come on??

I just want to get these issues "ironed-out"

The bad thing is...I sorta find myself regretting this purchase...

If they say "it's normal", simply ask them to prove it to you by taking you for a ride in a brand new truck off the lot and see if it also does it. That will put egg on their face.

My $0.02

I have the Work Truck interior. I miss the padding on the driver arm rest. My 1990 Chevrolet 1500 was/is easier on the elbo. Granted, in winter, I have a jacket/coat and don't notice. But in warm weather the arm rest is hard plastic. Minor issue. But still an issue.

Now, the fold down right center arm rest is excellent. And, of course, my 1990 was bench seat with no right arm rest.

I think the build quality on the GMT900 interior is excellent.

When my truck goes into v4, I feel a slight vibration in the pedal. And at high rpms, low speed, the truck vibrates and it it goes away in v8 mode.

Mine too, super smooth, it's really not even noticeable.
