I know my truck is a 2007, not 2008, but I've been pretty happy with the paint on it and it was built at Oshawa. The only complaint I've had was with the painted center section of the front bumper that chipped real bad, but the dealer repainted that a couple of weeks ago under the warranty (right before it expired  ).

I noticed a long time ago that in the bright sun....I can see almost like a brown color in the paint or something weird...dont bother me though and I'm not gonna cry about it because in reality u cannot see it. I do however feel sometimes that my doors look like they are dented (near the door handles). But then I see other trucks that look the same so then again I dont feel bad...I'd rather drive a truck with minor imperfections then haul off and buy a dodge or somethin. LOL

I've noticed the "door dent" too. Mainly around the driver's door handle which is used most. That is probably my biggest complaint about the truck. The area around the handle should have been reinforced... you can feel it flex when you open the door.

I did and all they want to do is spot paint the areas and blend in on one panel. Another body shop has told me this wont match and the correct way would be to blend two panels. So as of now I am looking for other options. The orange peel is visible also but I can live with that.

The debris in my clear coat is so thick in areas that I am starting to think its causing the clear to come off (very minor)in the raised spots. So I have to do something but since the whole deal raises my blood pressure every time I think about it I have taken a little break from it all. I also have a call into the GM Customer Service Assistance Line as well. I plan to make a stink out of it cause there is no way it should of left the factory like it is today.

Has anybody had their truck repainted yet? I called GM Customer service to complain and I just recieved my $200 credit in the mail today. Not that it fixes anything but in takes some of the burn off the whole deal.

Whoa, whoa, whoa....can you elaborate on this? How did you get it, just a simple call is all it took? I'm guessing your truck was included in the "study"?

I definitely don't want to get mine repainted but for $200 credit I'll place a phone call.

Yea just a phone call. They spoke with my dealership and they confirmed the problem and agreed it should of never left the factory with this issue. I asked what were they going to do to make it right and they offered this up. Also note if you pull up my dealers paint shop on BBB website its not good and I mentioned this to them (GM) as well and asked them if they would want their brand new vehicle painted by someone like this.

The $200 is a service credit for any GM dealership not sure if parts is also included need to look into that more.

Last week, I saw my Wife's cousin's truck, and I could definetely see the orange peel on his black truck. I have to really look for the orange peel to see it in my graystone metallic truck. This guy actually washes his truck every other day, and he was a bit dissapointed after I pointed out the orange peel. I felt bad after I mentioned it to him, but perhaps he will get it repainted. This truck is cleaner than most showroom trucks. Regardless, now I can truly appreciate what some of you guys are going through witht this orange peel problem.

So you guys are freaking me out with this thread. I picked up my brand new Sierra only 22 hours ago from the dealership, and now I read this! D'oh! Seeing as mine was built in Oshawa, I think I'll be watching to see what happens to the paint finish. Thanks for the heads up!

well.......crap.

i thought my paint looked a little splotchy (thin) in the sun the other day. of course when they delivered it to me it was in the shade under a huge overhang. thanks for putting this up, i'll have to go check my VIN tonight when i get home.

$37k and we don't get fender liners or a hitch, but we do get a crappy paint job.

I tried to on Saturday, but that didn’t work out so well yet. The service manager said that the orange peel was nothing, and that the clear coat on the roof that is peeling was caused by dirt while in transport on the railroad. I’m not sure how to go about taking it in again. I would rather me and my truck not be know for anything at the dealership.

Now that is one great big truck load of BS that service manager is giving you. Peeling clear coat caused by dirt during transport?! Talk about lame excuses. I wouldn't go back to that dealer, but would go to a different dealer and have them look at it.

When my new Tahoe arrives (eventually one day) I'm going to be going over it with a fine tooth comb.

    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
    • So, lot's of googling and reading, and a trial fit found, that indeed they hit the newer fatter caliper. I did some re-testing today, and found just 3/16" worth of washers was enough for the wheel to spin freely. I added 2 more on each, and again it spun freely. Tested lock to lock with the 4 washers, about 5/16" not quite the 3/8" Im considering, but pretty close. No issues. I've been looking at the BORA .375" spacers and using extended lugnuts to get back lost thread due to the spacer. All the ET lugs I've seen are all .33" reach inside the wheel lug holes. For those that don't like spacers or think they're unsafe, I think it depends on what type of spacers you're using and making sure you get good quality hubcentric ones, and if you're using bolt on ones, regular mainenance, checking the spacer lugs. Not wanting or needing that much spread. Looking for the minimum that will let me run these rims and tires.  it does look to stick out a little, but I really want put these on. and use the stock all-terrains in the winter.
