2007 K1500 Shimmy Problems

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am looking for advice from peeps that may have experienced this problem. I have 2007 K1500 Crew Cab. I installed some aftermarket 20inch wheels and tires. they are about 1" taller than factory but about 20% wider. I was experiencing front end shimmy upon braking. I naturally thought the rotors were warped. I upgraded to a new SSBC 14" triple rotor & piston brake kit. Guess what still with the shimmy of the front end under light braking. With hard braking the shimmy seems to disappear.

I was thinking maybe the stiffness of the front struts and the larger tires may be the issue. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

when you got the new rims did they take off the little clips on some of the studs. Those have been known to cause some shimmy i think not positive though

Take off the clown wheels and deposit them in the trash and

put the stock factory set back on and I am sure your wheel

shimmy problem will disappear! Ya think?

helpful as usual...

OP: When I removed my factory 20 inch clown wheels, and invested in my Centerline clown wheels which were HALF THE WEIGHT I had the shimmy you mentioned, removing the clips from the rear brake drums did the trick.

They are only on there for assembly, remove them and it will go away.
