Fog Lamps

My fog lamps are dim, they point directly at the ground so close to the fron of the truck they are invisible. I looked at it briefly and it seemed to me there was no way to adjust them. Anyone know anything about this? Can I replace tham with lights that work? Right now they are really just marker lamps.

They are worthless when stock. They can be adjusted by removing the housing and screwing/unscrewing the adjusting nut on the bottom of the three posts. You can mod the existing harnesses and use 9005 bulbs or HID's, you can buy the Putco replacement bulbs which claim to put out more light (some have suggested they are no better than the stock bulbs though), or you can replace them altogether using the PIAA after market mounting brackets designed for complete replacement.

Here's a link to my original mod: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=63715

For the best results, I'd highly recommend the HID's. It's only $80 bucks for the lights and they run much cooler than the halogen setup.

They are worthless. They are just there so you can drive around town with them on and look like one of those other posers.

Stock fog lamps are more of a cosmetic look, rather then having a functional purpose. Every vehicle I have owned that came with fog lamps did not have adequate lighting. On my 2500 HD's design, the regular headlights are more then bright enough in lighting the road. Matter of fact, the head lights do such a great job lighting up the road, that even the hi beams on my F250 can't hold a candle to my low beams on my 2500's. Pia fog lamps are pricey, but I think they are some of the finest after market fog lights money can buy. I use to use KC Day lighters off road lights , I had two on my brush gard and three on my roll bars on my ranger, those were some serious bright lights! When I turned those suckers on, it would be like day light outside. They got so hot, that they could melt an insect in a matter of seconds if an insect landed on them.

I guess I'm the only person who thinks my stock "driving lights" are actually pretty good. I drive different cars every week in my job and most of them are so bad you can't actually tell when they are on. In my truck they shine down and out the sides really good and people flash their lights at me when I have them on while driving-so they must be bright...

I prefer to drive with them and the low beams on rather than the high beams most of the time on back roads.

Fog lamps are not driving lights. They're SUPPOSED to point down at the ground in the near front of your vehicle.

I just installed a set of OEM fog lamps on my '01 2500 HD LS. Was very pleased with all the factory pre wiring. I forgot to pick up the relay so I haven't tested them yet. However, the fog lamps on my '01 Denali work great. I know they are a different style but I'm hoping to get similar performance on the HD.

I agree with you, my stock 05 HD fog lights/driving lights work good for me. They really shine wide and light up the ditches on the back roads. I have been in other vehicles where the stock driving lights are worthless, so I do have something to compare them to. I am really glad they came on my truck.

But I noticed that most of the complaints are about the NBS truck fog lamps... I have not been in one of those yet to compare to my fog lights so I can't comment on that.
