Sooo, its snowing like a mofo out here on the way home. I'm keeping plenty of distance between cars and coming up on a light, it's turning red so i stop and this tool in his toyota camry hit me. I come out swearing of course, and go inspect for any damage. He hit my hitch and i didnt see any damage, the guy is like no reason to swear blah blah and saying its bad weather. I'm like no S#$!, if he put some distance like someone with common sense would. So after the light, the guy goes in the opposite lane and takes off giving me the bird. So i was going to let it go, but when i got home, my little skull cover for the hitch is cracked, no big deal right. Well further inspection i see the trailer hitch is bent up. Then i see the whole bumper is pushed up. WOW! I talked to the sheriff county dept where their jurisdiction is but they're not taking any more reports of that nature till the morning due to the weather. Already filed a report with my insurance. It's going to be filed as a hit and run. Unbelievable, you can drive as safe as you can, and still get some ahole with no brains to hit you. Last night, my wife and i driving home in some lousy rain, and this ditz old lady decides to pull out in front of us from the mall, luckily there was no traffic next to us and my wife had to swerve over. If i was driving i would pulled with her at light got out, and bang on the window and asked how the heck she did'nt see us. I'm soooooo pissssed right now. Sorry if my sentences, wording is goofy, just really angry and wanted to vent.

That really sucks. When driving in the snow, I probably pay more attention to the OTHER cars on the road than my own. I trust my own driving abilities, it's the dumb shit on a cell phone speeding around a snowy corner that I don't trust.

My Business and Law teacher in high school told a story about why you should never leave until you call the cops and file an official police report. He was driving in the rain in his landscaping truck (it was an old beat-ass Dodge), and some lady rear-ended him. There was no visual damage since she hit his hitch ball, and they were both fine, so he just said forget about it, and they both left. Eventually he found out that the frame was bent, and it ended up totaling the truck, but since he didn't get her info, it had to go through his insurance, and he got effed over.

You didn't get his plate number or any information?

I'm glad that you and your wife are okay and didn't get injured.

Feel free to vent away.

That so totally sucks that the Camry ended up bending your hitch and bumper.

I seriously think drivers are getting dumber and dumber. Or more probably more and more distracted. Around here a little rain and accidents start popping up all over, with a bit of snow, it's nearly chaos. It certainly doesn't take much to understand that raining/snowy it's slippery I better leave more distance.

Did you kill him?

Here in Texas, one of our murder one defenses is "He needed killin"

Also in Texas, when that defense fails, they kill you.

Well.. there is THAT SMALL ISSUE! That's why I only kill cars.

""Here in Texas, if you kill somebody, we kill you back!"

Unless it was a justified "He needed killin" case.

you should leave your reciever hitch in. Mines been known to do some Damage

Even better... weld a 4 foot spike made out of an old one ton axle shaft to it. If they hit you hard enough it will stick out one of their AC vents! WOO HOO>

And those cases seem to be showing up more and more...

Listening to the radio this morning, while it was raining, there were wrecks being reported all over. People need to just stay home! I really wish it would ice over, then they couldn't even get out of their driveways!

That sucks. I know its sh!tty out there right now. I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago in the Taco Bell drive through. Some douchenozzle in a POS taurus hit me while I was waiting in line. Wasn't hard or anything but I got out and didn't see any damage so I told him I wasn't going to pull him out of the window but to be more careful. When I got home I realized the bumper end cap was all scratched. It all buffed out but I was pissed.

Those parts are all really expensive and there's about 40 parts to the hitch and bumper. Make sure they don't forget anything. If you're looking for a place to go, Rainbow in Volo is really good. They painted my bumper black when they put everything back together for only 50 bucks.

    • Sounds like converting will be a bigger endeavor than I was thinking. This truck doesn't have 2Hi like the Suburban did. The Tahoe has 4Hi and 4Lo and a button to turn of traction control.   From what I understand the Stabilitrak uses open diff in the front and rear. When wheel speed is not the same the stabilitrak uses the ABS system to slowdown the spinning wheel(s) to transfer power to the slower non-spinning wheel(s). I thought the transfer case was open too. Being able to transfer power either more to front or rear depending on wheel spin. Maybe I miss understood some information with you saying and power transfer is 50-50. Thanks
    • My brother has a 2007 Avalanche with afm 5.3. It`s got 176,000 miles. Runs like a clock. Never been apart. Co worker has a 2010 Tahoe with afm 5.3. 230,000 miles. Never been apart. Runs like a clock. So, even though cyl deac is a weak spot, they can go the distance.   BUT, these engines had the oil changed regularly, AND had 5w30 as spec. I wonder if they would have lasted this far on 0w20? I`ll bet not.
    • I certainly could be wrong but I hear of pickups far newer than that 2007 cutoff which may not be going to the wrecker but are having engine work done and be that a reman engine or new engine or trying to repair the existing engine. Some of it would be design issues as per the cylinder deactivation system that GM has and one of those lifters wiping out the cam and the question of oil changes moving the needle or not on that whole mess, or in the case of Ford pickup engines that have the long timing chains and wearing them out and the roller followers and phasers and some of that certainly goes back to oil change intervals. But in those various cases the truck has all sorts of life left in it and so the unfortunate owner and may be original owner or used market owner that is pouring money into repairs so the truck is not seeing the salvage yard yet but damage is happening by infrequent oil changes. A friends son had bought a 2018 I think it is half ton GM and it had some sort of extended or used dealer warranty on it and of course the lifter issue bites and its rattling and so the dealer had to swallow the bill and was at least 7000.00 and I think they only replaced what they felt they had to replace so yeah, I can see that being a ticking time bomb in the not too distant future. Would frequent oil changes cure all these engineering "marvels", probably not but some engine designs have shown that they do much better if the oil is changed a lot more often then if the manufacturer service claims are followed. New trucks cost so much that there is an incentive to keep the existing truck on the road by repairing.
    • get a good code reader, and find out what problems the truck has noticed by reading codes. cheap ones can only get basic engine codes, you may want to get one that can get codes from all the computers in your truck.
    • This is sort of my point, salvage yards aren't overflowing with all these 'poorly' maintained trucks - excellent/good/servicable condition otherwise, salvaged only as a result of a bad engine from poor oil change regiment.    In my area, there are no 2007 to newer gm trucks/suvs in any salvage yards. A few are in the 'recyclers' with very obvious reasons for being there - wrecked.
