Hello, And Merry Christmas Y'all...

 

Man, what a week I've had.

 

First off, I want to say that the dealer I go to is always real good to me and they try to do a good job.

 

I took my truck in at 0700 on Tuesday for them to work on my driver side seat cover and pad for the 3rd time in 2 months.

 

The service manager comes over to me and says he understands I have some other issues with my truck that he can address while it's there. My hot soaked starting problem of a few months ago is still around and the TSB they handed me seemed like BS to me and maybe he thought so too.

 

So that's what they were going to try to duplicate. They did, and that's where the fun starts.

 

At 1530 they call me and say they have good news, and they have bad news! The good news is that they sent my seat out to a leather shop and it came out awesome this time. The bad news is that they found that the starting issue is being caused by my fuel pump and they removed the bed to work it. I asked why that was bad news? They say..."Well we had a little mishap"

 

That's never good news...

 

It seems that when they lifted the bed off, it hit the left hand aft cab pillar and left a 11" long 1" wide and 1/2" deep crease in it.

 

HOLY CRAP...

 

I went right over to the shop and was going to try to keep my cool. They golf carted me back to the shop, and when I saw it, I lost it. I turned around walked outside and just sat on a bench they had out there. It made me sick and really pissed off.

 

I know shit happens, but it's always something with me and this place.

 

After I cooled down, we all decided it needed to go to the body shop and that's where it is today until Wednesday. Merry Friggin Christmas to me.....

 

My truck was a year old on Dec. 20th and has only 6900 miles on it and was perfect until now.

 

Thank you for letting me vent....

 

I'm going to get a really stiff eggnog now, (LOTS OF JACK) and chill out. Y'all have a great night and a Happy New Year.

That sucks....mine goes in on Monday. Not looking forward to it as something always happens to me too. We will see... Hope yours comes out OK.

Wow, that would piss me off too. I can only imagine. How can these people be so careless. They have all the tools and hoists they need and still screw things up. But on the bright side, they did not wreck your truck while test driving it. A crease in sheet metal can be easily fixed.

 

Remember Chevy Chase in the movie "Christmas Vacation"? How he rants and raves when he finds out that instead of $ 20k or so bonus he was expecting he gets a one year membership in the Jelly Club or something? Two glasses of eggnog calm him down though. :lol:

Was this James Wood in Decatur? Just curious. I bought my truck from them and had a great experience, until it came time for them to fix something for me that was a "factory defect". Oh, and the fun started there and lasted for 4 weeks. Just thought I would ask. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! lol

Holy SHIT. You seem to have bad luck with that dealer, I'd look for a new one.

 

And stuff always evens out, if something this bad happens, you've got some good coming your way. :lol:

Sorry to hear of the damage. I'd be pissed as well.

 

Well, I gotta be blunt about this. If you have had problems with them in the past, why go back? Better off finding another place, don't you think? Or is distance an issue?

Sounds like times are tough in the service department and billable hours (covered by the manufacturer) are at a premium.

It's about 100x easier to remove the bed than it is to drop the tank. Seriously...You unclip the lights, unbolt the filler neck, and BOOM. 8 bolts and the bed is off. No hard to reach bolts, no extra elbows and double-jointed wrists, no laying on your back for hours...It's just easier.

 

Of course...That's how easy it's always been for ME...The tech that pulled this stunt is probably having a really, REALLY bad Christmas because of his carelessness...To say nothing of Heysdad's :'(

It's about 100x easier to remove the bed than it is to drop the tank. Seriously...You unclip the lights, unbolt the filler neck, and BOOM. 8 bolts and the bed is off. No hard to reach bolts, no extra elbows and double-jointed wrists, no laying on your back for hours...It's just easier.

 

Of course...That's how easy it's always been for ME...The tech that pulled this stunt is probably having a really, REALLY bad Christmas because of his carelessness...To say nothing of Heysdad's :'(

Yup. You can take the bed off in about 10 minutes if you have a way to lift it (and you've done it before). Last time we took one off, we had three guys and I grabbed my neighbor. Picked up the bed and set it in the front yard until we were done. Whole thing took about two hours.

 

You don't even have to remove the bed entirely either. Take all the bolts out of one side, and loosen the other side up most of the way (they're long bolts) and just lift it up on one side...Like a sideways tilt bed.

nice, now here is a stupid question, is there such a thing as a lift for the bed, you know similar to an engine lift?

My neighbor rigged one up with his engine hoist and some creative rope work (tied it to the tie-downs in the bottom of the bed). Worked fine.

      I've installed cheap eBay new aftermarket digitizers before.  They work.  Did a bunch of Cadillac CUE (aka Cadillac's MyLink) for someone years ago.  They all worked fine after the repair.    That number 22740886, that is a component part # for GM.  You can use it to search, but its not something that's obtainable at the dealer level.     So pretty much any of these will work - 2015 Colorado Digitizer for sale | eBay

      You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode.

      "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
