Question: Dl8 To Dl3 Mirrors

I've got an LT with what they call a "true truck" interior. I don't care about the power folding part - all I want is the signal, heat and power adjustment. Can I manually fold the DL3 mirrors in like the above guy asked? You know, just push them inwards flat against the truck

Yes, I have manually folded in the ones on my Tahoe and Silverado with zero issues and they felt the same as the old DL8's

Same here. Everything works except the Auto-Dim and Power Fold on mine which is no big deal because I never had it to begin with.

...to anyone who's performed this upgrade and doesn't have power-folding operation after the fact, do you still manually fold your mirrors? if so do you notice them not locking into position? during the winter i go through automatic car washes so i need to be able to fold my mirrors in with no repercussions...

This is what I'd like to know. I found a pair of painted and unused DL3 mirrors for my 2011 Silverado, and want to know the following:

  • I've got an LT with what they call a "true truck" interior. I don't care about the power folding part - all I want is the signal, heat and power adjustment. Can I manually fold the DL3 mirrors in like the above guy asked? You know, just push them inwards flat against the truck.

  • They appear to be in a folded-in state but are not mounted on the truck. I've pulled them out as hard as I dare without breaking them, but they're firmly in the "folded-in" state. How do I get them in a normal state (out) without an electrical connection for the motor?

Thanks for your help. I'd like to have them in a normal state, so I can take them to my local paint shop to paint 'em shiny black, then be able to mount them on the truck.

like Ryan and Daryl said, you can still fold them in without issue. i folded mine in several times over the course of a couple winters and there was never a problem.

Could a toggle switch be added somewhere else on the dash or door to power the folding option? I have been thinking about this for a while and I'm now sure why it wouldnt work, but I'm not an electrician and I didnt sleep at a Holiday Inn Express. I guess I'm a little different than the rest of they guys that are doing the upgrade in that I want the power fold and dont care about the turn signal. It would be great if the toggle type switch hooked up to the battery would work. Any thoughts?

I am not sure what code I have. They are manual fold and heated. The turn signal I might add but I do not like what GM did. I want my signal on the bottom visible from teh front side and rear. I might have to mock up a piece and start cutting but I did see somewhere that I can just add turn signal glass/led. The kit was like 60. It was stock GM glass not some stick on LED strip/arrow. I want the power fold tho

Just buy the door switches with the folding button and replace them. Much easier and cleaner look

Can he do that? I've heard that depending on the year like say a 2011 like mine that the switches won't work?

To do that I would need to buy new wiring harness for both doors as well as the switches. Then I have to go to the dealer to have all the new switches programmed.

I just got a 2012 Sierra SLE and I really wanted to do this swap. I bought the Dl3 mirrors both switches and was ready to go BUT when I pulled my switch panels I find different connectors. There is no way I can use the new switches. Then I did more research and find that I will have to change out the door harnesses. Has anyone come up with the part numbers fo these?

changed my 2006 Silvy from DL8 to DL3. bought mirrors from craigs list and switch from someone on the site and had programed by dealer. all in all 250 bucks when said and done.

Now selling my DL8 mirros and switch as a set to recoup some cost with switchout.

Don't know I'd you already got the answer but I actually did this back in June and all I did was get the dl3 mirrors driver door switch and passenger door switch and made sure they both were off of a dl3 truck. Then I installed them everything worked perfectly auto tilt and dimming mirror works w/ power fold and puddle lamps. Basically everything went flawless and that's all you need I'll post a video up

Later when I'm home. The truck was a 08 Yukon btw

i searched 'DL3' and read until my eyes bled but didn't find an answer to this specific question. i want to upgrade from DL8 to DL3 mirrors. my truck does not have door modules so it's my understanding that i won't be able to use the power fold feature but i will gain the integrated turn signals, which is all i care about. my owner's manual says something along the lines of: "if power-folding mirrors are accidentally folded manually, they may not re-lock into position and could vibrate out of place when driving on the highway. to correct this, use the power-folding buttons located on the driver's door to re-position the mirrors into their locked position".

to anyone who's performed this upgrade and doesn't have power-folding operation after the fact, do you still manually fold your mirrors? if so do you notice them not locking into position? during the winter i go through automatic car washes so i need to be able to fold my mirrors in with no repercussions. i've got a new set of DL3 mirrors i'm interested in on ebay and would like to pull the trigger today, so thanks in advance for speedy responses.

Did you end up doing the swap? I'm not sure if my truck has the modules or not and wanting to add the turn signal feature to mine since I need a new mirror to begin with.

yes i did.  i used this guide here: http://www.gmfullsize.com/threads/2007-silverado-sierra-door-handle-install.93769/

hope this helps.

Not to sound rude or anything but how does swapping the outside door handle have to do with the mirrors? Also this is off this topic but does anyone happen to know if the widow switches are prone to going out on these trucks? My driver door only rolls down the driver window but the fromt and rear passenger windows roll down on their switches on their doors and my driver rear door switch doesn't roll down it's window.
