Unable To Get Parts

So does GM actually sell parts anymore? I keep hearing guys on here that have parts backordered. Now I'm in the same boat. I ordered the new brake light switch for these GMT900s. That was on 4/25, was supposed to have it 4/28. Went to the dealership because I got no call from them, they called some part locator system and needed my VIN to "speed things up", the system found 1. Went in 5/4, told me it was coming from the east coast so it would be here today (5/6). Went in today because, again no call, told me they have no idea. Now the part that was found magically disappeared. If this keeps up too much longer, I'm getting my $12 and change back and I'm buying one of those old time switches that didn't have all this bullshit and I'm putting that in. GM is just sprinting towards that out of business finish line. I know it's only been 11 days since I placed the order, but come on, can't tell me anything? GM doesn't have parts to backup a TSB, good thing the NHTSA didn't force them to do a recall, they'd really be up a creek. /rant

One 12 dollar part on back order hardly makes for a company going down in flames. It happens to any business if something becomes a popular item. The brake light switch "issue" is hardly a recall waiting to happen.

Its not GM thats at fault, its the suppliers that are going bankrupt and GM has to resource the parts and that takes time.

what was the problem with the brake light switch?

Went you let off the brake pedal ever so slightly, the brake lights go out.

As for it not being recall material, I disagree, any safety item should be a recall if it is defective. Hell, if the transmission is known to fall out of the truck, I expect a recall. The only way it works properly is if you put pressure on the brake pedal and keep applying more pressure so the last 2 feet ABS engages and you come to a screeching halt, much better for the brakes pads, rotors, and tires.

I'm having issues getting all kinds of parts at the dealership right now,As redvett said....Its a supplier availability issue.

Hopefully with them putting a "SPAC" case on it it will help speed up the arrival,I can tell you one thing....I know where theres one at sitting on a shelf at a dealership in Pa.

I have noticed that my truck does this. Where is the switch at? Easy replacement?

I just called a dealership to inquire about the brake switch. Said that GM has it on backorder with no dates of when it will be available. I think there is a location 1 hour away with the switch, not sure I want to drive all the way to get it or just wait for the product to eventually become available. Are there any other replacements that could be used besides the GM OEM part? Perhaps one that is activated whenever the pedal is push down at all and turns off when pedal is in full upright position.

Just to clarify, the reason the suppliers are going Bankrupt is because GM won't pay them the millions that they are owed so yes it is GM's fault.

Thats what I'm seeing on a dealership side of this,Theres been a couple times where I've gone straight to the supplier directly and bypassed GM to get parts (IE-Ordered parts from the supplier and just sent them a check for what I've needed)

Do you know who makes the brake switch?

For anyone else that is curious, the replacement switch part number is 25991704.

what MAY be happening is this:

If I were a supplier supplying GM right now, I would probably say: "Parts will ship when check arrives AND CLEARS  ". They are probably not too eager to push parts out and "wait" for the check, as, NOW, there is a good probability that the check will never find its way into their mail box.
