My 07 new body style Silverado locked me inside for the second time today. I tried the key (after I crawled out the pass side door :) ) manually unlocking both handles is this most likly the problem? the door lock actuator? thanks for any help.

YES! The door actuator is part of the latch assembly. Same thing happened to my wife on the passengers side door. Once replaced, all is working perfectly. Very easy job to do yourself. Definitely not worth taking it to the dealer if you are out of warranty.

Well tonight I am going to begin the task of replacing 2 of these. SHould be fun in a garage that is around 100 degrees :)

I am going to take pics and document the entire process to aid others. Wish me luck :sigh:

Called my dealer and set up an appointment with the service department to look at my door lock actuators. I first took the advice of this forum and opened the link and placed an e-mail to GM. The female attendant was of no help at all and told me that it was not a recall item, that I would have to first take it to my dealer, and that I would have to pay for the diagnostics to see if my actuators were working or not. I sure hope that GM hires some qualified attendants that try to assist you with your problem than to deny you or shift the problem elsewhere. I guess it really depends on who you get connected to with your e-mail.

On my 2008 Silverado Crew Cab the driver's rear door actuator did not work at all and the rest worked intermittently. Well I called the sales manager and he provided me with information for the service manager and assured me that there would be some adjustment and not to worry. The sales manager who I contacted assured me there would be no charge for any actuators that were not operational.

Well!!!! All four actuators failed and the dealer replaced them all for the big goose egg - NO CHARGE. Thank you Durand Chevrolet in Hudson, MA. What a great dealer!

I requested as posted in this forum that they reprogram the DIC (computer) to change the personal settings so that the transmission activation (drive -lock, park - unlock) would get deactivated. They were not able to complete this and informed me on my model truck that the computer would not allow for this. Well, I can live with that at least I can get into and out of my truck.

I'm very happy for this would have been a $1,200 fix.

My driver's door actuator quit working around 27k on 2008 Silverado Crew. Replaced under warranty, but I think I'm going to change my settings so it's not getting worn out as quick.

Just bought my 08 with 44,000 miles. Mines been acting up. I got the famous "we could not recreate the problem, but its been logged" when I tried to get them to replace it under the GM certified warranty.

Crap. Mine just started to only lock halfway and not unlock when putting in park this last weekend on the drivers door. Time to call the dealer.

Get the "CHEVY FORD ACURA 2X UNIVERSAL POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR" for $10 plus $5 shipping off of ebay. For $15 you can fix two doors with actuators that are better than the ones that came on it. It's EASIER to replace, too. I saw a post about not risking using non-GM parts for such a critical item. I just don't see it. If it doesn't work and you are one the outside, use your key. If you're on the inside, push the little unlocker up. Your genuine GM actuator isn't working so well right now anyway, is it? If your speakers crack, will you be replacing them with genuine GM parts??? I hope not! Anyway, it was easy to install, works better, saved me a lot of money, and I now have a spare to replace the next one that goes out.

Well, I have a 2008 Silverado Crew Cab and 4 months ago had to have the door lock on the drivers door replaced . Yes, I also, had the Left rear door speaker replaced and it was a matching GM speaker . didnt see any need to replace all of the speakers with high dollar ones or go to wal-mart and buy a crappy cheap one . My dealer did not warrenty the door lock or speaker. It sounds like GM is having lots of problems with the 2008 thru 2010 models. Just hope anyone that buys GM has a better Dealership than the Dealership that I bought mine at and have been having serviced. I had my 08 for just 3 months and had a blow-out on the interstate. I took the tire still on the rim to my dealer and it took the dealer a week before they did anything . IT cost me almost $300.00 for a new tire and the sensor . Dealer wouldnt warrenty it either.

I wouldn't even mess with it. Our truck door actuator is part of the lock mechanism/latch. I bought a set of these for another vehicle (bro in laws ford sport trac). When my actuator started messing up again, I looked into getting these in there, but it would most likely break something, and cause a bigger mess. Get yourself the newest part number for the door actuators, and get them replaced (about $65 per side).

Just had the dealer reprogram my '09 Silverado CC so that I can turn off the auto lock function. Best $25 I've spent on the truck in a long while. When I first mentioned it to the service write, he said it was not possible. Then he asked the other service writers, and they said the same. I asked if they could run it past the tech to see if he knows. Ten minutes later it was done.

Well, it looks like I am there too. 2008 LTZ Silverado and my 8 year old almost fell out of the truck at 45mph. I am pissed that Chevy has let this actuator issue go unaddressed for this long. I have written to GM and will let you know the outcome. This truck has only 16000 on it!
