Hello Tricia, I have a 08 Sierra ext cab that has had the actuator go out on the front driver side door. I know I'm out of warranty so please let me know if this is such a problem that it is being repaired for free or what I can do. Thank you.

Just replaced the pass rear door lock module on my 2009. Total time 25min. Home tools. Module at dealer here in Canada $225.00 in US $119.00 (guess where I bought it)

If you want the details how to replace just let me know.

As for the part numbers, GM's listings from the original have changed (i guess they changed the design of the part).

I had the same thing happen to me but to my front driver side door. If you have the plans to fix that or know where I can find them please let me know. Thanks.

The Drivers Side Rear on my 2009 just went. I bought the truck used a little over a month ago. I will be ordering one online from the US and installing it myself.

Highbrass,

The best way for me to look into this for you would be with the last eight of your VIN. I look forward to your message. Thanks.

Has anyone had any luck getting these fixed by a dealer for a truck that is out of warranty? My 08 has just hit 80k, but the locks failed at about 70k.

Both of the rear locks on my dad's 2009 Silverado HD failed out of warranty (barely 5000 km over) and GM wouldn't even consider doing a goodwill repair.

And then both of the rear locks on my 2009 Silverado failed a month later (near the end of my warranty) and GM replaced them no questions asked.

So I guess it's a function of timing and how reasonable the dealership is. It was quite the coincidence though that two 2009 Silverado crew cabs, bought within a month of each other, both had to have their lock actuators replaced at roughly 60000 km.

My front two door locks just failed, truck only has 75000 km on it but obviously I can't get these repaired under warranty. I am pretty goddam annoyed considering how common this is. It's also nice not being able to get into my truck without having to reach through the rear door just to unlock the drivers door.

My sister just had to have all 4 of her door locks replaced on her 2008 Avalanche last month.

Anyone know the specific parts that we need? I've found plenty of online vendors but none with specific part numbers? I need the front left/right actuators for a 2009 Silverado Crew Cab, LTZ /w keyless entry.

I'm assuming that these have to be it? Any of the listings that say /w keyless entry either say w/o LT/SLT or w/o All Terrain Package. I'm assuming that keyless entry is standard with LTZ, SLT, etc?

A-ha, there is an issue with the search functions if you try to look for a Silverado LTZ. I searched for a 2009 Sierra SLT instead and got this:

Has anyone tried ordering the actuators vs simply ordering the entire lock assembly? The online parts shops don't exactly give much information on what is and isn't included. Below are the parts listings for the lock assemblies themselves.

I have a 2008 GMC Sierra VIN # 3GTEK13J08G264725 that has this same issue. Truck only has 25,000 miles on it ( use it camping only) and the RH front lock has slowly failed. Same issue as others, it worked sometimes then quit. You can see the lock trying to move up and down but after a few tries, quits completly even moving. My dealer is Jerry Kelly in Adel, Georgia. Truck is out of time warranty, but these locks are failing everywhere seems like. Just bad parts I assume.

The lock is easy to replace(for me it is anyway) , just would like help on the replacement part.

Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

I have been thinking this one over. I may or may not get any joy from GM over these shoddy locks, but i think I have come up with a solution for those of you who are handy with basic metal fab work. I found these...

Now, I was looking at the door locks that have the internal solenoid built in to the lock mechanism. There is a nylon arm that operates the rod going to the manual lock button. Now on this triangular piece of plastic, there is an EXTRA hole. One of these little actuators could easily be mounted to the original lock and the 2 wires that go to the internal piece of crap actuator can be simply wired to the external one. The nice thing is you could do all 4 doors for under 20 bux. As it looks like the other 3 will fail soon from what I am reading, this may be an alternative. I will post pics if and when I do this mod.

The nice thing about doing it this way would be that the internal solenoid would still be actuated, so if there are any safety switches or warning switches in the lock, they would all still work.

Oh, and do not go on about how these may not be quality actuators. I mean, what kind of quality are the ones we are having issues with?

And I too am wondering about the safety issue here. I mean, you think you are locked up and one of these fail, and a child opens the door, or someone comes in your door at a red light. Scary....

The actuators will not fail all at once, they will work some times and others half work and others not at all.

Easy DIY fix, takes about 30min actuator costs $140 in US $200 here in Canada.

my 09 crew pass side failed. when you get the replacement it will be a different number than the original (product improvement i hope) they are door specific so you will need the particular one for each lock.

problem is when you lube the lock you are spraying right into where the actuator electrics are, the lube eventually makes the mechanism work harder then it fails.

6months mine in now and no issues with the replacement

Did it! $5 fix for the locks. Pics and instructions coming!

Only requires drilling 2 small holes in door under panel cover to mount external lock actuator. Do not even have to remove lock. Splice 2 wires and your lock works like new for $5.

GM even has a rubber plug in the hole to adjust it...LOL
