2008 Silverado Power Door Lock Actuator Failed

I have a GMC Sierra 2500HD and I am experiencing similar problems. My front drivers door lock went out last week. The electric lock/unlock feature wont work from inside or the fab. However mine was a little different. My locks were working fine, not sluggish and with no signs of wearing down ( I experienced this in my F250 and had to replace all actuators twice, and you could tell for months that they were slowly dying). My question is, has anyone experienced their actuators going out like this. Working fine and then dead out of the blue. If not is there anything I could do to test and see if there was another problem before buying an actuator and trying it out. I just want to make sure that it actually is the actuator and not some other part. I haven't pulled it all apart yet, so I guess I need to do that to make sure everything looks right. Taking it to the dealer is kind of out of the question as I'm 100 miles away from the closest dealership and would only be able to go on the weekend. Also, checked fuses that pertained to the locks and all were good. And advice you could give me would be a huge help! Thanks. Wilson

Not one to post on here much but since you haven't gotten a reply yet here is my .02.

If the passenger side still works then most likley it is the driver side actuator. ( not a fuse, switch, key fob etc) It gets used much more often then the passenger side, so it will most likley go out first.

If it is not the actuator.... well you didn't loose anthing as it was abviously (as you can see for gm's actuator record) going to go out soon anyway.

When my driver side went out it just quit one day like yours. Never noticed it being sluggish but then again why would I look for something like that when most door locks last over 100,00 miles or 10 years whichever comes last!

Had to replace the passenger side actuator on my 08 with 11K on it last week. When I brought it in I was told "We replace these all the time" I hope the other one goes out before next July.

Thanks a lot Elbo! I was just a little thrown off by how it went out instantaneously. I appreciate you're help and experience. Yea, I expected a little more from those actuators from GM! At least the factory Ford ones lasted 6 years and 120k.

2007 Silverado owner here

My truck had 23K miles on it when my driver side actuator went fully out. Months before that it was very intermittent so I was hesitant to take it in. It turns out that when it finally went out fully I was 2 months over my warranty.

The dealership was willing to do a good faith repair on the vehicle but since I purchased an extended warranty when I bought it new they needed to go through corporate. Three days later corporate says sorry we can't do the repair for free since you have the extended warranty.

Nice to know I'm getting punished for purchasing the extended warranty. I've owned a GM product my whole life (1990 GMC Jimmy, '95 s-10, '93 Silverado, '07 Silverado) and this is the last one I ever own. My next truck will definitely be a Ford.

Dear Wes,

Thank you for contacting the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate the opportunity to review your concerns with your 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. We have examined Service Request number 71-873203236 in which your concern is documented with the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center. We are in agreement with the position previously made and communicated to you.

We are not able to provide cost assistance on the repair since you have an extended service contract which would cover the cost with $200 deductible.

:D I had the same problem around 40,000 miles my drivers side door lock stopped working. I paid $200.00 to replace it then the other three doors started failing. I spoke with the service manager at the local dealership and he said that there was alot of failures. They said my truck was 2.5 years old and over the 36,000 mile warranty so there was nothing they could do for me except quote me $600.00 to repair. I called GM and filed a complaint and after 9 days they informed me that there was nothing they could do for me that my truck was out of warranty. I argued that I did my part, I fixed the first one but all 4 have failed in 2.5 years, and they don't see a problem. I think the fix is spelled FORD.

Well, I read some posts about several people having problems with their power door lock actuator. I though I'd start a thread to keep an eye on this. My truck is a 2008 Silverado Crew Cab. It currently has 34,000 miles on it. The Passengers side door actuator stopped working yesterday. I'm headed to the dealer on Wed. to get it looked at, and hopefully replaced. Feel free if you have had any problems related to the door lock actuator. Thanks!

 Sure, but I have a business with both Ford and Chevy trucks that are 8-10 years old with no power door lock failures and I just think they used an inferior product and they should own up to it. When my local dealership says that they replace alot of them, what does that equal to nationwide? Spending $800.00 on a 2.5 year old truck for door locks just doesn't leave a good taste.

FORD has power lock problems too. :P

I'd be very put out if I had to pay that much too for my door locks, no doubt about that. Felt that way about the power window regulators going out on 3 Fords I used to own. All 4 window regulators snapped by the time the truck & cars had 40,000 miles on it and I only had 1 that they replaced under warranty

I deactivated my auto locks so it does not lock every time you go to drive/10mph..it cuts down on the use of the locks..will let you know...

I have an 08 z71 1500 and all 4 actuators have been replaced twice. Now as of yesterday i have three of them starting to stick yet again and not wanting to work. I had an 05 superduty i traded for this truck and with 180k miles on it and not one issue ever. This silverado i have has been through two batteries, 8 lock actuators and 1 electric brake controller. The only thing i can say good about it is the ride. Im very dissapointed in the chevrolet product and me personally will be returning to ford when the time is right. This truck has put a real bad taste in my mouth as far as there ever being another chevrolet product here.

2008 Suburban. Had both driver side door lock actuators replaced last summer at 10K and 14K miles. The first they had the part, the second they had to order it. The second one had a different newer part #. Maybe they updated the part. I think it's the same for both doors.

can you provide the newer part number? I'm now on my 3rd door actuator replacement (both rear sides, now front driver side)

my actuators have stuck on my drivers side 2x now at like half way. Hitting the button or the fob or pressing button in truck will not unlock the doors. However, both times this has happened I have simultaneously pressed the unlock button on the fob while pulling on the door handle. Just weird they jam and won't move up or down until manually cycled. The first time they just stopped working altogether for a day and then started again. I have 08 sierra denali with 53k on it now. Dealer replaced my low washer fluid sensor at 51k for nuthin when they did my washer heater recall. details details details gm. it's one thing when you take away my washer fluid heater but I use the damn locks every time I use the truck. Good thread for everyone to reference when the time comes

my friends 199x ford explorer started on fire on the lock/window controls while the truck was shut off sitting in the parking lot at work! saw it with my own 2 eyes, that is one hell of a recall Ford!
