heavy4x4 Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Hi all, Looking at a 2008 Silverado... The truck has a lower front bumper cowl/valence (not sure what you all call it) that makes the truck have a low/weak stance. Is this easily removed? I guess I've seen trucks on the road with and without it, so I'm not sure if the trucks without it have simply unbolted it and put it in the garage attic. Have some before and after pics if you've done this to your truck? Thanks, -Steve
Matt_ Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Its very easy to take off.... two screws and it unclips. Takes a whole 3 minutes (maybe 10 minutes if you are doing it your first time..) I took it off for the same reason, hated how low the front looked.
blackout07 Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 It couldn't be easier to remove. Off with it!
VMax2007 Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I took mine off, then put it back on. Not sure why, it was just there.
C. Charles Hahn Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I took mine off, then put it back on. Not sure why, it was just there. I did the same.... took it off, and just didn't like the look of the front without it. Looked like something was missing.
WilliamsVMAX Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Remove it. Its only something on the truck waiting to break off. It looks better with out it. Its only the half ton trucks which have it.
Zembonez Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 It is an aerodynamic device. Removing it might net a tiny bit worse fuel mileage but I'd bet the difference is almost none. If you like the looks with it off... take it off. Pretty much nobody but you will ever notice it.
Spurshot Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Probably was needed to get the "fleet" of trucks to a particular economy threshold. 'Might help a tad on cooling if you were in a marginal situation. I always called this part a "spoiler"..

My friends said it looks more ike a 3/4 ton from the front....
Stevens03 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 mines been off as much as it's been on. Don't see any difference other than styling. Its on right now.
BloodRedSilverado Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 anybody wanting to get rid of theirs, I have a guy needing one....just send me a PM
sierrawhite160 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 took mine off the day i got my leveling kit and new rims and tires. looks a ton better to me.
farmallcub Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Mine's up in the rafters of the garage. A truck front end shouldn't drag on a curb or stop when parking. It's just not natural......
