Hid's

I just installed an HID kit on my 2500hd and these lights are so much more better then my stock halogens. They light up the road so much better and have a nice straight line. I only paid $79 for the kit, and it is a simple plug and play install, no wiring at all to do, except plugging in existing oem light harness to HID ballast. They also do not bother incoming traffic. I recenty bought a BMW X5, and was so impressed with the BMW's headlights, that I wanted to upgrade my 2500hd's lights, and I couldn't be anymore happier. I got the 5000k bulbs which are a whitish blue color, I plan on ordering the kit for the hi beams on my truck, and a kit for my snow plow lights, provided I can fit the ballast inside the snow plow lights. Where I used to use hi beams with halogens, I really no longer have to with HID's. I highly recommend upgrading to HID's, the difference is amazing!

The HID's also use less power (35w compared to stock halogens 55w). These lights will soon become the next standard, as they come with higher end luxury cars like BMW, Mercedes, Caddiliac's, ect. And at $79, it is a very reasonable price as compared to what they used to sell for. They have a one year warranty, and the included wires are very well made. Right now they are in my oem headlight lense, but I am waiting for my led halo projection lense which I ordered this past weekend.

I also put a HID kit in my truck and the light output is great I did it couple of months ago and can't remember if it was a 4000 or 5000 kit. All in all I am very happy with it. I was also vey happy with the light dispersion patter, in that it was the same as the stock, just brighter.

I had 6000k in my 2008 Civic Si, they were nice. I wouldn't go any higher than 6000k, because they start getting too blue/purple-ish after that.

I had 6K lights in my '02 YukonXL.......I really miss those lights.

Im going to give the hid's a try. Im guessing in the snowy weather, they would be a great improvement as well. Curious what brand of snowplow you are going to put the hid's in? I have a Boss, and would love to improve the lighting.

Thanks

so are you saying that these lights actually have a cut off beam? like they don't just shoot light out like a flood light in every direction, like so many HID kits do? It's hard to tell from the pictures but I can't tell how this would be possible, can you provide a picture of the beam on a wall or something, or of the actual bulb unit?

I'd be very interested to see how they accomplish this without a lens.

Right now they are in my stock lens, but I will be getting a projector halo lens next week. The light has a straight line cut off on my garage door, but kinda hard to tell if with the stock lens it gives that same straight line cut off on the side like my BMW does. This is where the projection lens would come into play. But I did have both vehicles parked side by side last night (The 2500hd and the X5) and it appears the new HID's are a brighter then the stock BMW's headlights, but I think the BMW's lenses have a better side cut off then my stock lights. But straight ahead, the light being admitted from the HID's, gives off a nice straight cut off.

I took multiple pictures last night, but it was raining and am still not that familar with the new DSL camara I bought a few months back to get that perfect low light darkness picture. Also the 2500hd is much higher then my X5, so trying to compare the lighting fairly is tricky, cause front end of BMW is lower and would have tendency to project light further and flatter as a pick up truck's lighting is mounted certain way so that it doesn't blind smaller vehicles. I can tell you that the light being admitted from the HID's is brilliantly lighting up entire service area clearly, and brightly to the cut off line ahead of it. I do not get the oval cut off effect like the BMW produces, because of my 2500 does not have the projection lenses on it right now, but you will notice a much better difference if you plan on only using the stock lenses. And provided your lense are clear, as opposed to the older 90's style where they had non clear lenses.

With plow brand , I have a Western with the newer style plow lights. I still haven't gotten a chance to open up the Western plow light houseing to see what kind of room I got to play around with and be able to fit HID ballast inside each one. But seeing how big and wide the plow lights are, they would definatly fit, like I said it all depends how much free room is inside after i open it up. I did come across some posts where people where successful in putting them in boss plow lights. I can't wait to see how well these lights look in the snow, I was really impressed or how well they also light up when it's raining, cause I know when it rains, the halogens always seemed to have trouble lighting the area up, and the halogens on the plow lights lighting the area up always pailed as compared to my OEM head lights on my 2500HD. Something with the design and generation of my 2500HD, that produces a very good light compared to older generations.

The projection lenses I ordered cost $180 after discount code entered at check out and will accept HID's provided the bulbs are not longer then halogens. Also found different HID's as low as $57 for a kit online. Most places charge $199, I got mine for $79.

Any reason why you choose the 5000k over the 6000k? I'm stuck between the two. Thanks

I wanted the more whitish blue rather then blueish white. There seems to be many different places that sell them, and not all 5000k's are necessarily the same as the other ones. I like the brilliant white light with a dash of blue in mine, also when it comes time for inspection, I wont fail for having blue headlights. I'm getting the projection halos today, they are being delivered any time now.

Maybe a hint of it, it's mostly all white though imo. Also don't want to be breaking any laws by having blue lights here, so cops can be hard heads about lights.

I got the projectors yesterday, late! Anyway they took me about 45 minutes to hook them up and wire them. They came with these tiny halogens and at first I thought my HID's wouldn't fit in. Well they fit ok, spent like 2 hours adjusting the lights last night, before breaking the bottom tab of the lense by accident, which I then used some JB Weld on. They are a real pain to adjust, I had my truck behind my neices vw so I can line up lights so they are not blinding car in front of me. Maybe it's me, but i think my BMW's projectors light up better, idk. I probably still need to adjust these lights. I like the cut off beam on the DS, but on the PS it seemed like I couldn't get it to go as wide to the R actually it's L on these lights L = Wider. I was trying to mimic the light pattern in height I got with my stock lense, but for some reason I think there is a slight shadow showing up on the PS light, IDK, maybe I spent too many hours playing around with it last night. Then I had to take a hair dryer to the JB weld and stand there and allow it to cure. Hope that JB weld works, I usually do not have great success with it on most tasks.

I would like to replace the bottom lenses, but I got my strobes going through them.

i have the 8k slim kit. and i get numerous attempts of people flippin the bird, yelling at me, try to swerve in my lane and people flashing at me.... even big rigs do the same...

Here's an idea, get rid of the 8,000K bulbs.
