Windshield Stone Chip Repair

Recommended Posts

I was driving today and some ahole decided to spin on the the road infront of me a i guess his tire caught a rock and chipped my windshield. The chip is the side of a dime and i was wondering if i get a shop to do the resin will it still be noticeable or should i replace the wind shield.

Where is it? I haven't delt with any chips personally, but most people say if it's not in your line of sight you can do fine with the resin, but in your line of sight, some resins can cause some distortions

chip repair for sure.

Most insurance co. will pay the whole bill. The chip Co. will bill directly. I done several and am 100% happy with this procedure.

get it fixed fast. A buddy of mine had one and waited a little bit (day or so) and with the temps up and down it spread like a wild fire.

Im going to get it patched tomorrow morning at 9:00 at a local shop and they said if im not satisfied they will replace the glass for me and not charge me for the patch. Thanks for the fast responses.

Definitely try to get it repaired right away; most glass companies will cover your glass coverage deductible if you don't replace the glass.

In my opinion it will depend on how picky you are about appearance. In the windshields I've had repaired the repair still looked like a small chip. My wife did have one repair done on her vehicle about 3 years ago and it was the least noticeable of all the repairs (5+) we've had done. We decided on the spur of the moment to trade it about a month later (back when economic times were much happier) The vehicle sat on the dealer lot for about 6 weeks during which time the repair split from the top of the windshield to the bottom.

I currently have a repaired windshield in my truck. It's leased and I hope I don't catch grief for it when I turn it in, but at least I have the repair bill from the glass company. Best of luck with the repair; I hope it works out better for you than it has for me.

Im very meticulous on my vehicles and the repair company said its lifetime coverage and if it pops or split the shield they will replace the glass for free. Hope all goes well :)

I had a stone chip. in my state there is a law they cannot make you pay anything for windshield replacement if you have insurance. I went for the resin simply because nobody can ever duplicate the factory seal of your windshield no matter what they claim. The windshield is a part of the structural stability of the truck roof. I had a windshield replaced on an Jeep Commanche by the local place that had the best reputation/time in business. I swear it was never the same, I could hear wind noise at certain highway speeds, wasn't happy. You should be fine.

I posted a photo below but i think it looks horrible and like Jhm said I dont want to replace i because i want to keep the factory seal... What do you guys think is it a crappy job or is that how they come?

From my experience the resin chip repair is noticeable and yields a mediocre result.

agreed, i had that done on my 99 sierra and after a couple months it still started expanding

I had a pretty nasty on repaired on my second windshield of my 07. It was repaired for over a year and it didn't spread, but it was still very noticeable.
