I keep my owners manual in the glove box just for instances just like this. :)

 

If you have keyless entry then hold lock and unlock on the remote at the same time for like 5 seconds or until the horn beeps. Then starting at drivers front let air out until you hear the horn beep then go to the passenger front and release air until the horn beeps, then the passenger rear, then the drivers rear.

Each TPMS sensor has a unique identification code.

 

 

 

Any time you rotate your vehicle's tires or replace one

 

 

 

or more of the TPMS sensors, the identification codes

 

 

 

will need to be matched to the new tire/wheel position.

 

 

 

The sensors are matched to the tire/wheel positions in

 

 

 

the following order: driver side front tire, passenger side

 

 

 

front tire, passenger side rear tire, and driver side rear

 

 

 

tire using a TPMS diagnostic tool. See your dealer for

 

 

 

service.

 

 

 

The TPMS sensors can also be matched to each tire/

 

 

 

wheel position by increasing or decreasing the tire's air

 

 

 

pressure. If increasing the tire's air pressure, do not

 

 

 

exceed the maximum inflation pressure indicated on the

 

 

 

tire's sidewall.

 

 

 

To decrease air-pressure out of a tire you can use the

 

 

 

pointed end of the valve cap, a pencil-style air pressure

 

 

 

gauge, or a key.

 

 

 

You have two minutes to match the first tire/wheel

 

 

 

position, and five minutes overall to match all four tire/

 

 

 

wheel positions. If it takes longer than two minutes, to

 

 

 

match the first tire and wheel, or more than five minutes

 

 

 

to match all four tire and wheel positions the matching

 

 

process stops and you need to start over.

 

 

 

The TPMS sensor matching process is outlined below:

 

 

 

1. Set the parking brake.

 

 

 

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON/RUN with the

 

 

 

engine off.

 

 

 

3. Press the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)

 

 

 

transmitter's LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the

 

 

 

same time for approximately five seconds. The

 

 

 

horn sounds twice to signal the receiver is in

 

 

 

relearn mode and TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE

 

 

 

message displays on the DIC screen.

 

 

 

If your vehicle does not have RKE, press the

 

 

 

Driver Information Center (DIC) vehicle information

 

 

 

button until the PRESS V TO RELEARN TIRE

 

 

 

POSITIONS message displays. The horn sounds

 

 

 

twice to signal the receiver is in relearn mode and

 

 

 

TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message displays on

 

 

 

the DIC screen.

 

 

 

If your vehicle does not have RKE or DIC buttons,

 

 

 

press the trip odometer reset stem located on the

 

 

 

instrument panel cluster until the PRESS V TO

 

 

 

RELEARN TIRE POSITIONS message displays.

 

 

 

The horn sounds twice to signal the receiver is in

 

 

 

relearn mode and TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE

 

 

 

message displays on the DIC screen.

 

 

 

4. Start with the driver side front tire.

 

 

 

5. Remove the valve cap from the valve cap stem.

 

 

 

Activate the TPMS sensor by increasing or

 

 

 

decreasing the tire's air pressure for five seconds,

 

 

 

or until a horn chirp sounds. The horn chirp, which

 

 

 

may take up to 30 seconds to sound, confirms that

 

 

 

the sensor identification code has been matched to

 

 

 

this tire and wheel position.

 

 

 

6. Proceed to the passenger side front tire, and

 

 

 

repeat the procedure in Step 5.

 

 

 

7. Proceed to the passenger side rear tire, and repeat

 

 

 

the procedure in Step 5.

 

 

 

8. Proceed to the driver side rear tire, and repeat the

 

 

 

procedure in Step 5. The horn sounds two times to

 

 

 

indicate the sensor identification code has been

 

 

 

matched to the driver side rear tire, and that the

 

 

 

TPMS sensor matching process is no longer

 

 

 

active. The TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message on

 

 

 

the DIC display screen goes off.

 

 

 

9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK/OFF.

 

 

 

10. Set all four tires to the recommended air pressure

 

 

 

level as indicated on the Tire and Loading

 

 

 

Information label.

 

 

11. Put the valve caps back on the valve stems.

A total PITA!! :) GM should come up with a more user-friendly way of doing this. The trick is to let air out for the first 5 seconds and then wait 30 seconds for the horn to beep. It may take several attempts at getting all of your sensors reset.

Yeah, like pushing a reset button on the dash to relearn all positions at once.

honestly... its not that hard to do. ive reset mine numerous time for new tire/wheel combos and new rotations and ive never had it not work on the first try..... i really dont know how much easier they can make it......

I have never been able to get the air pressure method to work.

 

My mom's Jeep doesn't need to be relearned, there are receivers at each wheel well that pick up the individual sensors. A lot better system than the stupid thing we have.

I think it works great. I do the key fob thing and make a quick lap around DEFLATING each tire until I get the beep. Now that it has learned I make one more lap and adjust them to there correct PSI. Couldn't be easier IMO.

Ok, that's interesting info.

 

I didn't even realize that you had to do that......

 

I guess I need to make a journey to the garage and get-r-done....

I tried several times to get my '07 to relearn tire position. Took it to the dealer in in about less than a minute, the service rep had grabbed a hand held computer unit, pressed the Relearn Tire Position button, walked around and pointed the unit at the valve stems until the horn honked, and done. No charge. Don't know why I couldn't do it myself. Maybe I needed to try a few more times?

I have tried many times to get mine to work. Never happened

 

 

Just rotated my tires yesterday, here are the steps I took

 

1) Got in the truck and set the parking brake.

2) Turned the key on, yes on and not running. Repeat, not the accessory position.

3) Pushed and held the lock and unlock buttons on the FOB until the horn beeped twice.

4) Stepped out and went to the driver's side front and using the end of a tire gauge deflated the front tire until the horn beeped.

5) Moved to passenger side front and repeated, then passenger rear and finally driver's rear. After the last tire it beeps twice.

6) Went back around and deflated or inflated accordingly.

 

One observation I did make, I have a 2500HD and tires are 80 rear and 60 front. The tires with 80 PSI deflated much faster and it took just a few seconds get a beep. The tires at 60 took MUCH longer to get the beep, so at the lower pressure of a 1500 I would think it would take even longer. Also you have a 2 minute limit per tire so that is why I think it much easier to deflate then to inflate as you can move around the truck faster.

If you're having trouble getting it to work try running a large magnet across the sensor as you're letting air out. I do this on the Vette and don't even need to let any air out but I do on the truck. I have a friend's truck where I can just use the magnet, so I'm guessing there are differences in the TPMS that's making it easier for some than others... I got a big magnet from Harbor Freight for ~$5 that works great. An old speaker magnet would work well too.

I could never get mine to work and after A LOT of searching I found a service bulletin for certain types of valve stem type (rubber I think it was) letting air out causes a harmonic vibration so the sensor thinks it rolling instead of sending position information and that the programming tool was the only was to get them to register.

    • Bro, you still got that truck? I'm not seeing any m rust or flaking, which rusted metal flakes. Everyone thinks the wax "is rusty" but it absorbs its surrounding environment, creating a hard, natural shell that you can literally shoot with a bullet and won't flake off. It'll last 50 years like that as long as the barrier isn't compromised by getting in a wreck or meets a chemical that disolves wax. My 09's frame is even duller looking than that, and is holding up better than my rockers or 3rd set of painted shocks. 
    • No.   That would be an LT and higher trim.  Passive entry.  There would be a little button on the door handle and you can program it to proximity lock or unlock.     WT and Custom do not get this feature.  
    • Mediocre, how much did they lose on the poorly conceived EV strategy?   I wonder how much the stock price is being 'inflated' by all the buy-backs?   Cadillac literally looks like a brand without a rudder, no clear goals or product direction - performance or luxury? I guess performance because we can throw a small block in whatever we can and call it a day. Certainly not luxury when a Denali or High Country is reasonably cross shoppable. The Celestiq - no way - no vehicle can command quarter million prices when something wearing the same badge is on the buy here pay here lot across town.   Notice the 'base' Escalade doesn't even come with the 'leather-appointed' seating surfaces.   Hummer EV - fail Silverado EV - fail Sierra EV - fail Bolt/Volt EV (The most successful EV cancelled, restarted, cancelled, whatever its current status it)   Hybrids - none Sedans - none Medium duty - not anymore Minivan - none Coupe - none Convertible - none CUVs - 20+/-   6.2 Recall that landed squarely on the GMs highest seller - and specifically the fattest margin higher trims of the Yukon, Escalade, et. al. The most critical product line they fumbled big time. In the Escalade segment, are those buyers forgiving GM for a bad engine and patiently waiting for the fixes and dealing with the headaches? Nope, they dump them and go straight to the other premium brands.   In the ENTIRE GM portfolio how many aspirational vehicles are there? Corvette, Escalade (quickly being superseded by the obvious better value Denali)...   I posted somewhere else... what if Cadillac left the luxury game and became a performance brand similar to AMG or (gasp) Ferrari? Cut all the entry-level and base models from their line up and focus on the V-series or Blackwing or whatever they call it now. Of course, those would have the pre-requisite luxury and technology as standard equipment. This opens the floor for Buick to step in/up as the luxury brand (like they are in China), no 'performance pretenses' get rid of the 'entry-level' models with equally 'entry-level' power trains and become the Maybach to Cadillacs AMG. With those two brands effectively out of the way Chevrolet, the 'entry-level' brand has the floor to itself and GMC can take over as 'professional grade'.    Now each brand has a focus, no in-fighting, clear direction, and customer targets.   Just need to sneakily slide Corvette into the Cadillac brand and dump the vestigial script writing.
    • I can't get enthusiastic about the 1.5T (or the 1.3 or the 1.2), I won't drive a CVT. But the stupid things sell in volume.
    • There is a big difference in motorcycles and vehicles - nobody needs a motorcycle, they WANT one. That WANT is the most powerful force to drive price upwards.   I've hated every iteration of the Equinox, a prime example of GM laziness. It excelled at absolutely nothing, barely competitive by every metric. At least the latest generation looks decent.    I want to like the Buick Envista, but that pitiful engine plus FWD only is a BIG NO for me, I don't care how good it looks.
