Went to have transmission and transfer case scheduled service on 04 Yukon with 55k on it.Dealer estimated cost was $420. Is this an average cost? I can't do it myself or I would. Thanks for any input

Find a good independent shop, should be able to get it done for less

wow that seems real high. I had my truck done for like $125 (I bought the filter myself and provided this)

I would never pay $420 for that. Most shops charge around $80 to do the tranny alone. I don't know about the transfer case.

The dealer I always used for my Monte Carlo charged $130 for a flush/fluid exchange, and about the same when I requested an actual pan drop/gasket/filter change. The dealer I bought my truck from quoted around $250, but that was for a flush+filter change.

x2 at  for $420. I always tried to get it done every 30k miles for peace of mind, but I NEVER could have afforded that kind of rate.

Just for my clarification, are we talking about just draining the trans fluid, changing the filter and refilling? I have done this on my previous trucks myself. Not currently having a truck, but in the market, is this something that I cannot do at home anymore? Did something change in the last few years that makes it not practical or possible to do at home?

3 hours max. If you do not know what your doing. 90 Bucks an hour or better at some dealerships plus list price for the parts....

I will do it for 400.... hahaha

Yeah that is too high dude. It is not that hard to change the fluid and filter in your transmission. Transfer case is quite easy toooooo. Just use the right fluids as your stick says and what ever your case calls for (AutoTrac II MEANS AutoTrac II)

Thanks for all the feedback! I told my Gmc dealer he was $300 over priced and he said the fluid was $35 a quart? so I told him I would get it done by someone else.He really did not care, so I will not be back and I will be spreading the word around my area not to use them. Thanks again!

I know the dealer is expensive on fluids, but I can buy Castrol for 6.99 a quart for the Dextron VI fluid at Autozone.

I was told $280 for 100% of the transmission fluid to be replaced with synthetic and a new filter. The tranfer case was super easy to do on my GMT800. It took about two quarts of Auto-Trak II fluid which cost me $15.
