Hit A Deer Last Night In My 2010 Silverado

I was driving home last night down a two lane road and hit a young 120lb ish doe at about 40mph. The poor thing was visibly injured and had to be put down on the spot with the help of a .45 but the amazing thing is you can barely see a dent on the chrome center bumper piece of the truck.

 

Astounding work GM. Kudos to a great product. Getting the bumper replaced shortly at the dealership I just bought the truck through three weeks ago.

That is my only concern living out in the country. I see deer all the time and you never know when they will just jump out in front of you. Sorry you had that happen with your new truck, at least it wasn't anything major.

Wow that is good to hear. My son hit a deer in my wifes 07 Hummer H3 back a couple of months ago. It was a 30 MPH zone and he was probably doing 40-45 if I were to guess. It did $5500 worth of damage to the truck. I'd say you got off pretty easily for hitting a deer at 40. Damn things just never know when to cross the road, I think they wait till you light it up for them.

im amazed i havent hit a deer, because there is so many where i live, but i've heard of people hitting upwards of 5 deer(not at the same time, over the course of a year or two)

had a claim where this poor soldier was traveling on a back road at 65-70ish in the morning (GA) and ended up not only taking out bambi, but injured the young deer that was with bambi and then having a buck run out of the woods and hit the side of the truck repeatedly. Guy gets his truck put on a flatbed (radiator had thrown up) and proceeds to ride with the tow truck driver back into town (15 miles) and about a mile out, the tow truck driver ends up hitting a different buck head on, causing major damage to the tow truck (speed of tow truck unknown at time of impact - tow made it to the shop) and both drivers have to get picked up by Enterprise. Enterprise guy heads down city street towards a small military office to drop soldier off and ends up running into a deer in the middle of the intersection - enterprise guy was doing 45 on impact (according to street surveillance) and soldier ended up being very late for duty shift because of all of this. Base commander gave me an earful until I emailed him a copy of the video along with photos proving damages (apparently said soldier was not such a good soldier) and base commander ended up retracting all negative statements to both me and insured.

on another note i guess times have changed in the couple of years ive been out of the Marines. how does a soldier afford a 2010 f450? i was doin good to afford a 2003 f-150 xlt and i lived in the barracks...haha

It wasnt, it was his dad's. His dad was "kind" enough to tell me that he had not given permission to his son to drive it. Dad is apparently on the system where he gets money from the VA for some medical reason - perhaps someone can explain this one to me. His dad was trying to get us not to pay for the damages to the truck - something about prosecution for son "stealing" it. Sad part was I had to tell dad that he had left son on the insurance policy and that we were bound by law to pay out for damages. That is where I learned that son (in the army) was not such a good soldier and dad was a major in the air force (pulled dad's data from USAA with permission) to expedite claim handling. I guess that some units in the army are worse than others.

 

 

Sometimes it can suck being a claim adjuster, one can get caught up in a family dispute.

 

ON a brighter note, these new trucks are standing up to deer hits alot better than the old ones.

Older troop? Ya don't make E7 for many years...unless he was a college grad OCS washout (and even then). Am shocked that an E7 would be having such discipline problems...I am assuming it wasn't the actual post commander that ended up giving you a hard time, must have been his CO.

 

That said I hit a 100 lb doe doing ~40 in a jeep grand cherokee (was going 55+) at night two years ago. Barely any damage besides some spider webbing on the bumper, except the damn deer's skull slammed into my headlight, I had to get a whole new drivers side headlight assembly...but otherwise nothing wrong.

 

Also remember when I was riding with my uncle and cousin when I was younger in his suburban and he saw a deer so he slowed down and turned on his high beams so we could see (we were pretty young) and the buck got mad and charged the truck, ripping off the drivers side mirror and scratching the hell out of the fender and drivers side doors...

I figured more than that...... I have only hit 1 deer in my life.... I got it on the interstate....... Lets just say there was not much to pick up and get out of the ROAD...... It splattered pretty well across the warn winch I had on my F150.....

Dam an E7? He must have been in the army a good while or either he had some powerful friends
